Default MFactory Gear Set, anyone using it?

Was wondering if anyone is using the MFactory 3rd, 4th, 5th gear set from MFactory for a gsr tranny? It says on the website that case modification is needed? Just want to know how much it cost to modify tranny and install the gears, also, was it worth the money? I'm looking for a smog worry free upgrade.

Which is why im interested in the gear set, since i know it won't affect smog. But i wanna know if the upgrade is worth the $575 plus the cost to mod the tranny and install the gear set.

I run the MF gear set in my type r tranny and love them. There was just a little material that we had to remove for the 3rd gear synchro, but other than that they are great. Dramatically increased my acceleration, cruising around town you are in 5th gear pretty much all the time....lots of shifting. And freeway cruising is a bit of a pain, if I drove my car daily I'm not sure that I would like it but I put maybe 2k a year on my car for miles. At 70ish, my rpm's are right at 5k.

WOw, 5k rpm at 70 mph, what's your top speed, and hows your gas mileage, that is if you even keep track. Also, how much did it cost to install, or did you do it yourself. Thanks

i think you should also know he runs a b16b motor. it really depends on the motor and powerband.

My J1 b16 is at about that also at 70mph. I guess the 1-4 gear ratios a dramatically different?

He did the install himself. You have to grind the inside of the case for the synchro assy to clear. A few minutes with a dremel with do it.

I'll be running the MF gear set in my EX trans with 4.71 FD once my build is done in the Spring.

since we're on this subject, how does their 4.9fd compare to the ats unit? it's significantly cheaper.

Glad you like them I have been waiting to hear what you thought. since we have the same engine and tranny i was really interested to hear some positive feed back. My car is my daily driver however its a total of about 9 miles round trip to and from work everyday so i may be looking into these soon after i build my head.

I'm in for this one. I'd like to get their FD mated to an LS 5th for my S4C.

Let me know if you guys need some pricing or have any other questions, by far the most dramatic change that I have done to my car other than the motor swap itself.

What gear set would you recommend for my 97 gsr, mild build, daily driver? I drive about 40 miles during the weekdays, all highway miles.
