Recovering a "Type R number"?
your transmission has the vin number, ur hood, bumper, doors, all should have your vin number, most **** that came with the car should have it, ur pinkslip shoould have it
Hmmm. I guess I'll make one up. Say hello to 98 ITR# 0001
It's appraised value just went up 10%. No, I got a better idea; I'll engrave "Custom Built for Track Rat" on it.

i had the same thing, except my whole interior was missing, i actually called acura customer service(www.acura.com) and explained the situation and they called me back in two days with the production number. now trying to get the center consol lid with that number on it is a whole different story, well depending how smart your acura parts department guys are, mine still have mullets.haha
I dont have my badge number either. I know its not associated with the VIN. I heard that Acura can actually look it up somehow, however, I never bothered to find out because Im sure its not free

people on this board have gone up the corporate ladder, talking to acura and honda USA, and have had no luck. evidently honda themselves dont keep records of the badge number, same reason no one knows how many ITRs there actually are....
I'm not gonna worry about it. The car doesn't seem to mind either, still screams like fighting cat even without knowing it's sequence number.

If you can find out the original selling dealer they should be able to help you out. The VIN # should lead you to them by phoning Honda/Acura USA or Canada. They will need to see proof of ownership. Some dealerships are helpful and some aren't so good luck.

To my knowledge, badge numbering was only started in "later" years in asia, so being close to there, it's likely that you are in the same boat...
In reference to your next message, no that is not your badge number, it is not associated with your VIN, plus you probably don't have one...

True, I only need to spend about 10 minutes in any public place before I am reminded.

I didn't catch that, so it's probably not a big deal. However, that doesn't make it a good idea. Incidently, if I had to guess I would think there is a lot of theft in New Zealand.

While I was attending UTI Hot Rod U they bought a 97 ITR number 272.. They contact Honda to find out how rare they are. I was sticking firm to around 500 between US and Canada.. Honda Claimed over 2,000 where bought and sold in 97 in the US ALONE... I dont think Honda has any idea how many R really do exist.. I know since the 97s are lowest production numbers they are easier to try to figure out.. I just did a little homework and since I know my ITR is really number 51, I called the original dealer that sold the vehicle and gave them the vin # and they told me it was number #51 within a few minutes.. Personal try to contact a large Honda dealer with a CSI rating if you expected any results at all..
Good Luck
