Default Basic B20 build....dyno results are in.

Here is the first round of tuning on my basic B20 build.

84mm RS machine pistons
GSR head, ITR valves and intake cam. gsr exhaust cam.
Applied flow technology valve job **STOCK PORTS**
Rocket motorsports gen 2 valve springs and retainers.
SMSP B18 header.
1st gen skunk 2 intake manifold.
Maxbore 2000 si throttle body 67-64mm @ plate.
Velocity stack intake with 3" pipe.
RC 440 injectors.
Hondata S100.
Greddy sp2 exhaust with 2 inch bottleneck at flange

Original build thread: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1746834

Dip is caused by the length of the intake piping, I will fool around with different lengths to try and iron it out but small changes make drastic differences.

Soon, a true 2.5" exhaust goes on, I may try a few different intake manifold out.

Looks like a dynApack.

Great numbers, especially considering the ITR intake cam.

Yes its a dynapack. this one does not read abnormally high from what we have seen. doesnt matter anyway, the torque curve is great. every shift on the b16 tranny lands at 180 + hp and on top of the torque peak. Never expected this much power from such basic parts. I'll leave the small cams in until I get power hungry again.

Im looking at building a similar motor for my del sol. With the 2.5in exhaust how much more power do you think you will be able to attain?? Would 3in be too much...just asking cause some all motor 2.0 k-series run 3in exhaust.

Im looking at 12:1 or 12.5:1 on pump gas. 94 octane or better.

I think 3.0" would not be a bad choice, leaves a little room to grow and probably helps out with a few hp up top. I have been considering going with a 3 inch aluminum with burns lightweight resonator and muffler, but its loud, and I need this car quiet.

With a better system I expect a slight bump in torque and 210-215 peak hp.

nice car. nice build.

With some better cams, that thing will really move.

Try an import builder's manifold you can gain higher hp and tourqe at a lower RPM range than the edlebrock. You dont want to rev that b20 to high so going with a diffrent intake maniforld might cause some problems. That edlebrock mani is make to make power up to near 10,000 RPM it hits it peak power deep into the 8k or maybe even mid 9k depending on the setup. However the Importbuilders manifold costs alot so whatever.

Thanks guys. About the import builders manifold, I may look into that. I thought he just modded type r manifolds, but if he does the skunk2 then maybe its something I should try.

you should see a huge benefit from running a cnc'd intake manifold with
your setup I know you had your reasons for running the ol'
itr/gsr cam setup. if you look at the window from 7500-8200rpm,
the combination of cleaning up the exhaust, running that manifold
with say a skunk pro 1 and a retune... man thats a dyno before and
after thread if I ever saw one

I love this build up. Where did you find these pistons and what compression are you running??? When you rebuilt it I read you used stock rods and ARP bolts. Did you also use new OEM or ACL bearings?

He used oem bearings, the pistons are 11.5:1 I believe and they are made by RS machine

Thanks, and yeah this dyno has never put out stunning numbers. I have a feeling the peak number would go up a few and the dip would never show up on a dynojet.

http://www.rsmachines.net/index.html is where the pistons came from. For the price they work pretty good. compression is mid 11's. Has no problem running off pump gas. I like using the stock rods because they are free and don't weigh a lot. For a street/strip motor they are plenty strong enough also. As far as bearings go, I used Acl std and was happy with the clearances.

Along the next few months I will building and documenting a similar B20 with more attention to detail. Going for at least 20 whp more.

Thanks for the link. I went to the site and they dont list the prices or the compression ratios....

try this then, or call up and talk to eddie.... he can give details about what compression they will net with different setups.
