Some of you may know that Tom Cote (Tbone) was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident back on September 15. He was hit from the side and totaled his truck. The truck went air born a bit and when it came down the suspension failed and Tom took a huge shock to the back. He had major injuries to his back (but was not paralyzed). On October 26 he had his first back surgery to repair some ruptured discs. He has been in a lot of pain during the whole ordeal.
This past Wednesday he went back into the hospital for an emergency back operation. The surgeon had to clean out an area where a staph infection started and to repair another ruptured disc. He’s been running a fever since last week and was readmitted to the hospital this past Saturday and is unsure how long he will be there.
Tom has been out of work since the accident and is only getting limited disability pay. He currently has health insurance through his work but is uncertain if he can retain his job and insurance. Even with health insurance his deductibles are large. The current high strength antibiotics he is on for the staff infection run multiple thousands of dollars a day.
He still has a car, rent, electric, gas and credit card, etc. payments, like most of us, which adds more stress to an already extremely stressful situation. These are all taking their toll on him and his girl friend.
Tom has added much to this board over the past years. Many people on here have learned about the quality and performance of many different parts from many different manufacturers. He did all the testing on his own and we have gained from it. He has also provided tons of advice through IMs and posts.
Now is the time that we can say thank you to him and good luck with his physical recovery. H-T is the largest Honda forum on the internet and by its shear member size should be able to help him out in his time of need.
So I’ve set up a paypal account for donations to the Tom Cote Medical Fund. I have talked to George Knighton about this, and this thread will be made into a sticky for the All Motor and GDD forums.
Everybody please give to this important cause to help one of our own. This is the true meaning of Christmas and the members of H-T can shine a little light on Tom’s situation.
Please send what you can, via paypal, to tomcotefund@***.net .
I will keep the board up to date with running totals. Please give and thanks in advance.
If you want to send funds directly to Tom here's his address. But please send an email still to tomcotefund@***.net with your amount so that I can keep a running total. Thanks.
