Stand Alone ECU - PMS vs Hondata
ok guys, we've had the discussion of stand alones here and im pretty much sold on the hondata, however ive heard GREAT things about the EFI PMS. I have a link to their site, you guys should check it out. Any info as far as comparing the 2 systems would be great. One thing about the EFI PMS is that it is made REALLYYYY close to where i live plus all the dyno shops around georgia recommend running it. Anyways, lets get a debate on this topic going on, http://www.efisystems.com

The PMS sucks. I know a few people who have had it and ditched it within a month because it sucks to fight against the stock ECU. It's a piggyback.
First of all, the Hondata is not a true stand-alone....it still requires a modified Honda ECU to function properly....BUT, it does its job very well, and when i save up enough money to go turbo it will be my first choice...
I'll let ya'll know by the end of tomorrow. I will be heading to Atlanta, GA to dyno tune my EFI PMS. Along with me, will be two other friends of mine that will be dyno tuning their Hondata.

heh, I think you misunderstand the terminology. What is Zdyne then ?

Yep, that's where I'm going. Ed was the one who talked me into going with the EFI PMS. While I was up there for another dyno day, he was showing my buddy and I the in's and out's of the EFI PMS programming software. We rented the dyno for the entire day, so hopefully there will be good results for all 3 cars dynoing.
um to you...
so, are you trying to say that Hondata is a piggy back?

can u use a Hondata without a Honda ECU..i don't think so...so is it a piggyback? well, not really...it's not really in that same category...the best term for it is some sort of hybrid ECU...****, we can use the term for engines, why can't we use it for ECU's...
so, before u go and flame me, why don't u explain to me how it works...or can u do that...because no one here has explained why it IS a stand-alone yet....
"The adjustments are made directly to the ECU and the ECU continues to control the car's parameters...."
this definition works fine for me. while it is possible to elaborate, i dont think that's necessary.
well, of course you can't. because Hondata is a stock ECU that's been modified with an addition to an add-on box. But the add-on box does not calculate fuel or spark. that is left entirely to the ECU, and from my understanding the add-on box also serves as a security implementation to keep Hondata proprietary. basically it prevents someone from simply adding a socket to a honda ecu and using a 4b programmer to burn a rom.
FYI... to run Speed Pro on a Honda... you need to run an aftermarket ignition. According to your
definition, it therefore is no longer a stand alone.

I would say Hondata is a ecu unit that has some standalone function but not completely standalone. True standalone has unlimited function and parameter that controller everything the car does plus somemore. Hondata broke the code to Honda ecu and is able to control parameters that was preprogramed within. It still does rely on stock honda coding from the ecu just that it can tell the ecu to do what hondata unit wants. Is it a piggy back? hard to say, but definely works very well except you have to burn the damn chip everytime something is changed. It's a very affordable system but it's not god, not even close.
