Default 94 teg, engine temp fine, no hot air?

Seriously, this is really pissing me off. First of all, the genius who had the car before me took the thermostat out. I will be putting one in the car within the next month.

However, even when the engine is warm (sitting in one spot, not moving) I only get hot air out of the vents some of the time. It's getting worse the more I drive the car. As of lately I can turn the fan speed to off, wait a minute, and then turn the fan speed on 1 and it blows out hot air for about 30 seconds and then slowly starts to get cold again. I can turn the fan off, and repeat, but it still gets cold after a minute or so.

Any thoughts? Blowing cold air when the temperature is on hot doesn't make sense to me when the engine is warm. Especially since it blows hot air for a little bit.

Thanks in advance (and yes, I searched).

i still think its because of the not thermostat... I think although you see it on normal temp, its like borderline to being cold...

for the thermostat. Anywhere from like 155 to 225 degrees the temp gauge will show show "normal" temperature. It might be air in the system, but its most likley just the air cooling the heater core down too quickly because its not very hot to begin with. Keep in mind that when the heater core has 190-210* coolant in it, you get about 90 degree air out the vent. Thus 160 degree coolant in the heater core = what temp out the vent? Fix the thermostat, it helps fuel economy, idle and will probably fix your heat problem.....all for about $10.

Ahhhh, that makes sense 95 Integra. I got so mad at it yesterday morning that on my way home from work I stopped and bought a new std. thermostat and gasket and installed it around 10:30 (the only time I had to do it).

When I took the thermostat out, it is basically a thermostat designed to stay open all the time. I suppose they call those "racing" thermostats. Completely and utterly GAY IMO for a street car.

Anyway, I'll update the thread tonight with how my heat is this morning on my way to work.

Thanks guys!

The thermostat that came out of it was designed to stay open for sure. I've seen thermostats that are built to go in the factory location but remain open all the time. But anyway...

After I installed the new thermostat and added coolant (for those of you following this thread - if the heat goes away while your car is stopped, you're low on antifreeze) everything is fine now. I've got heat within a few minutes and everything is just fine.

i think they're FAIL SAFE thermostats, when they break they're meant to stay open so the car doesn't OVERHEAT. Same thing happened to my car...
