Anyone drop in Skunk2 stage 1 cams into their b18c1?
my friends got a 99 b18c1 in his 96 hatch, no name intake, skunk2 exhaust and ecu w/ the stage 1's, he dynoed 172hp and 124tq (not too sure on the tq) car runs strong, breaks loose 1st and 2nd @ 6000rpm
i have them now. very noticable difference from my previous ITR cam setup.i havent had the chance to dyno them tho. i will after my engine rebuild is done.
So Malice, what kind of setup do you have?
I just dropped in some Stage 1s last week and I have suffered some terrible performance losses. I mean the car is super laggy, up to about 5.5k RPMs the car doesn't move AT ALL. Takes me nearly 10 seconds to get to 60 MPH. The revs do not pick up even when I just rev it in neutral.. My cam gears are set at 0.. Do I just need some tuning or is there something else that's going on??
All I have are the stage 1s, Skunk2 cam gears and AEM CAI...everything else is stock.

i have skunk2 stage 1 cams.. they are great... i made 188 whp with about 129 wtq... (i know i can make close to 195`200 whp with more tuning.. )
these cams are great.... no worries about timing belts breaking because too high lift and enough power for a, 100 mile a day, daily driven car....

Check your timing belt installation and make sure that your cam gears marks are lining up at TDC. I would bet that exhaust cam gear is off by a tooth.

I did what the instructions said:
- leave the intake cam on stock setttings
- advance the exhaust cam 2 degrees
- raise fuel pressure up to about 40psi if you have an FPR
- timing should be advanced to about 18 degrees
I need to visit the dyno though, to truly tune these cams.
I noticed that too with these stage1 cams. There's a flatspot around 4000rpm-vtec crossover (5700rpm). Then when vtec kicks on it bones out, no rants there.
my setup consists of a skunk2 stage 1 cams, skunk cam gears, skunk intake manifold on a gsr block....
how is the idle? Is the timing correct? Also, you put it at TDC right?

not to sure about what the flatspot is, but wouldnt that have anything to do with it being a GSR?.. I am using a GSR ecu in my car and i have noticed the flat spot too.. raised the the vtec to 5500 and the lag has been noticably reduced.. my car seems like it is running rich between 4000 and 5000 rpm so i am assuming the ecu program is the culprit..

oh woop..i forgot to mention I'm running a JDM P30/mugen chipped ecu too...
A flatspot in the powerband is when the car doesn't feel like its making any more power....but when vtec kicks on the rest of the power comes through. Its a weird feeling, but i noticed it on my engine setup. B18C w/Skunk2 manifold. So, we're running a simliar setup.
What's your compression like? i mean...what pistons are you running? stock GSR?

i've tried to lower the vtec point to 4700 and tried every point upto 5600 and 5500 seen to be the point where the smaller lobes on the cams peak out..
my compression is in the 11.3 range i am assuming.. i have JDM P73 pistons in my motor..
yeah.. my setup is like yours, how much power have you made?..
will a 70mm throttle body be good for my setup, will i see good gains?..(i am considering hte ericksracing TB..)
my total setup is a B18c1 with JDM ITR pistons, skunk2 stage 1 cams, skunk2 cams gears, skunk2 intake manifold, USDM DC 4-1 headers, testpipe, greddy b-pipe, ultraflow muffler, ITR throttlebody, Injen CAI..

I also noticed a lag from 4400 to the secondary's.
Anyone still running a stock GSR manifold with this?
So far i'm +2 exhuast -1 intake, and it's super lopy. When I take the intake back to 0, the idle goes back to normal.
Any ideas on how to remove that lag? I'm going to toss in a couple of chips this week and see if any of them make a difference.
I'm running the PYR P72 chip right now. Thinking of trying the Spoon P30 chip Monday.

try to advance the intake cam.. i got good results from advancing the intake..

So far so good.
*** dyno shows positive results.
Intake cam -1 (advance)
Exhaust cam +2 (advance) (allen bolt stripped on HKS gears)
Once I fix that bolt, and a leaky seal, I'll post more results. I think I'm going to take the exhaust to -2 (retard), and work from there.

I'm gonna be installing these Skunk2 Stage 1 cams soon along with the Skunk2 Cam gears and VAFC. Anything I should know or do before installing or after? Give me some info and tips...

(-1%) Intake (advance)
-2 Exhaust (retard)
Pulls like a bastard up until VTEC, then spins the tires in 1st, when the secondaries open, it falls a bit on it's face. I'm going to try some new chips too. Right now, I'm using the JUN chip, but I think the XS engineering is going back in. We'll see tomorrow.
Ok, bolt is fixed, and now I have them at these settings. What can I say, OMG, it's 100x better than before.

if you dyno let us know how it does..
thanks
To everyone that has done this, you guys are just dropping in the cams and staying with your GS-R valvetrain? If so I'm definitely going to look into this more, because I was thinking about getting either ITR/CTR cams and that would be it. Also, how much typically do the Stage 1 Cams cost and where are some good places to get them? Please please, stock valvetrain....
