Default battery relocation

has anyone in here relocated their battery to their trunk. if so, where and how did you run the battery cables to the back, and what did you use to mount the battery.

The cable (not cables) runs through the firewall, under the side floor panels and on the side of the back seat. Buy a battery box to mount it. If the box is not inclosed in the trunk, YOU WILL DIE.

I'm being serious in a humorus manner. The gases in a battery can kill if inhaled for a long period of time such as a long drive. Any relocated battery must be enclosed and have a ventilation tub run outside the car. A battery relocation kit comes with all the hardware. http://www.summitracing.com

Gel Cells do not need to be enclosed. That is what I was told directly from Optima. However, a regular battery must be enclosed. I have had mine in my trunk for about 3 years now. I am still alive and kicking.

Optima does make a safe sealed batter. They are not cheap though. Besides, a nice box looks better than an ugly yellow-top.

Yeah, although they said it works just fine in auto apps. I know someone with the blue in their car and it works great.

Isnt the blue smaller? I've heard people put small batteries in their car with just enough power to start the car. Cold cranking amps? My battery doesnt even fit my tray its so big. Its also like 70lbs. Does wonders for traction during launches...so does the auto tranny.

Misa, since you don't have a stereo or half of any of your electrical amenities left in your car, you likely don't need a 0 gauge...

2 gauge instead of 0 guage = weight reduction!

I think almost everyone locates it to the right rear corner.
The box should come with a breather tube. You usually have to drill two holes to mount the box, and one larger hole to feed the tube through the trunk floor.
I used 2 gauge cable and an 80 amp fuse. It is very important to mount the fuse as close to the battery as possible, preferably on the box.

Why does the fuse have to be close to the battery again? I know it like the same thing with amp wires just not sure why. Will any 80amp fuse do?

The fuse has to be right on the battery so that if any part of the cable going to the engine compartment shorts-out (like if the insulation wears away and the wire contacts the chassis) the fuse will just blow instead of the other nasty things that happen when a car battery is shorted. Just get a fuse/holder from any car stereo place.
