Default Clutch went out tonight... Input for new clutch.

2000 ITR with 87,000 on stock clutch:

Well driving home from my friends house tonight, I was getting on it like usual. Wasn't killing it horribly, just driving the car like it's supposed to be driven.

I shifted in third, and I felt the clutch pedal studder... I took it out of gear, came to a stop and tried to put it into first... No go, had to rev it up, force it into gear and drive like that all the way home, all gears are equally bad.

I was sitting at a stop light, and I put the car into first, the car started shuttering, and started moving forward at about 2MPH with the clutch still in...

So I get home, and as I'm opening the garage door, I hear something clinking around into the bell housing. So I know what happened at this point, the pressure plate went bye-bye.

I pulled the car in, shut it off, and just to make sure it wasn't a shift fork, I moved through the gears... I'm good.

So... What kind of clutch would you guys consider for me? I'm on stock internal engine right now, probably putting down about 175-180whp, but I do plan on eventually getting it up to about 230whp. I drive the car on the roads quite often, and I do plan on taking it to the road courses often in the near future.

So which clutch would you guys recommend? I like a stiffer feeling pedal, but not so stiff that you can't sit in traffic. And I want really good grip.

Any recommendations or input is greatly appreciated.

(Also, this does sound like my clutch went out... Right? What else could it be?)

Id definitely pull the clutch so you know for sure. But check things like your shift fork and fluid levels and make sure that stuff is sound. Could have just been the springs on the disc or maybe the TO bearing took a crap.

I would just stay stock for now. No sense getting aftermarket clutch and wasting it on a stock motor, save it for when you plan to build the car.

I have a used stock clutch Ill send you for free, just pay shipping. I had it in my car before I went turbo and it wasnt slipping yet. I was probably around 185 whp. The disc is definitely worn but Ill even send you another used disc so you can choose which one you want to use

You da' man.

I checked my clutch fluid, it's topped off. Throwout bearing is brand new, remember in your Transmission thread where I spoke about I got all the bearings in my Transmission replaced, I also had the TO replaced.

If my shift forks were bent, I wouldn't be able to go into gear EFFORTLESSLY with the car off, could I?

RTW, you have PM.

Alright, that's what I wanted to hear... I might replace my slave cylinder too, I have a feeling it's on the way out as well.

Hopefully RTW can get it out tomorrow.

I opted for an ACT HDSS. The price and availability was right at the time. So far it's been great. Not too stiff for daily driving, great for the track, no complaints so far

Note the last line in my signature.

When it comes to serious things like this with the ITR... I'd rather pay someone who knows what they're doing, to do it. Especially when I get hook up prices.

I installed the Action 1KS. I like it. Have read it isn't to good for 1/4 mile runs, but since I prefer auto X that wasn't a concerne. The pedal pressure is a little more than stock. Damn sure grabs nice.

Why wouldn't it be better for the 1/4 if it grabs better than stock? Just curious, I really don't know that much about clutches.
