Default Got my Factor-X "Sp00n" hood today...

I got my Factor-X "Sp00n" hood today after a long wait (First hood was scrapped because of quality issues), and it is still not quite up to my standards. Before I get into that, this hood is light as all hell and looks great!. However under closer inspection I have noticed some minor imperfections...

It has more than a few noticable scratches, a couple more weave imperfections, lots of divets filled with white polish and a crease or two . I can post pics if you want...

Never fear though, been in contact with Factor-X and they have been absolutely great!! They're sending me a polish that will remove the white from the divets! Still doesnt help with the other imperfections... and they realize this. Sooo if I am still unhappy, a new hood will be built to Factor-X and their great service!

Now for a question...

Wasn't the hood latch and hood hinge attachments supposed to me CF reinforced, because mine isnt ??

Factor-X

The hood latch is CF reinforced. Mine is.

Mine also has some dings and what not but it's not a big deal to me. The corners aren't wrapped around because they told me that it would take 2x as long and that means 2x the price. It's not perfect but nothing some black shoe polish and wax can't fix.

Price:
Quality:
Fit:

Almost can't get any better than this without paying more.

ah, glad j00 got j00r h00d. I wonder if the imperfections were caused from shipping?

Now for a question...

Underneath is fiberglass skeleton and the latch and hinge attachment areas are reinforced w/ CF on the inner side of the skeleton. You can't see it b/c it's all black.

Here's a pic on a prototype

yshi - whose glad to hear they are working w/ j00

These are just some of the imperfections, white spots seen in almost every picture are numerous on the entire hood...

Don't know why the color is different.

Not cleaned up very well.

White divets circled on left, weave imperfection circled on right. More white spots to the right..

Scratch (2.5 in)

Weave imperfection (5 in)

More divets.

Scratch (2.5 in)

One for the road Notice the whit specs, all divets.

There are also two parrallel 4 in scratches that wouldnt photograph...

Whatcha think?

Alex

Looks like you got one of the bad bunch. I saw your hood while I was there picking mine up. Mine has a couple imperfections on the way corners of the hood. After I spent some time cleaning it up, it is almost perfect. Just some chips I can't fix.

If that is all your complaining about, I dont think even the Genuine Spoon hood is up to par.

How does it fit? Are they gaps uneven?

It's all luck man. These things are hand made. You never know, just like spoon hoods.

whats up guys glad to see you are starting to get the hoods..
i read jur post if you dont like the way it looks send it bad there cool they take care of you no problem.. the hood will some slight imperfections but these look a little more than normal try the polish and if not send it back to them. all these hoods are hand made not vacum molded which we know would be tons of $$$.

i think for most of you the hoods are fine and we're bound to get one bad one that slip through..

Mine fits 95% perfect. I had to keep adjusting it to get the best fit. I bet you can get it to fit like stock.

We will see how the polish goes, I'm sure Factor-X is great.

B2-

So then should I try my luck again, take in account how extremely hard it is to take pics of this damn hood

How is the hood latch reinforced....that looks as if you may have to use pins. My hood is being built right now....I was hoping not to use pins, but looks like it may be a good idea.

It depends if you want to take the risk, sorry but out of the 6 hoods that I checked out, yours had the biggest flaws.

The hood latch is CF reinforced. I installed the rubber stripping that goes in the front and at 90MPH, it is still safe to not run hood pins. The guy there at the time, Mike, said that unless your going 100mph+ then you won't need the pins.

I was just hoping it would be reinforced a little better like the Kaminari style hoods are. Looks like I'll just have to keep it under 100! lol

I picked up mines last friday. I was luck enough to pick it from the rest. They did have some imperfections, but overall a good hood.
