Another car won't start thread. Stock '97 GSR Have fuel/no spark/replaced coil
Yesterday morning my stock '97 GSR stalled while I was pulling into a spot. It didn't start right away, but I went inside for a bit, came back out and the car started and drove fine.
Leaving work the car wouldn't not start, it turns over but doesn't catch. Checked right off the cap and didn't see spark. Reset the ECU, and the same thing. Checked fuses and didn't see anything blown. No Check Engine light.
Picked up a new coil and replaced it this morning. Same thing, except now the Check Engine light is on (I noticed it was on before replacing the coil).
What do you think? Ignitor? ECU? Bad ground? I don't have any sort of anti-theft system (you wouldn't want to steal this car anyway). Any suggestions about what I can check...keeping in mind that my car is stuck here at work and I have limited tools.
Thanks!

Most of the time, it's just the igniter.
I had the same problem a couple months ago. I just went ahead and changed the whole distributor. Fired right up.
You may also want to check the main relay.

If u're gettin fuel then don't check the main relay, but try and figure out what the cel is. Jump the connector and count the flashes of the cel. I'd do that b4 u spend any more money.

Yeah...that's what I thought. The weird thing is, it wasn't giving me the CEL before. The damn car seems to do what it wants when it wants to.

Oh...and word to the wise. Make sure you double check those spade connectors on the igniter. Lest you be the victim of the dreaded bouncing tach needle, misfires, and further stalls. That just happened to me when I finally drove the car home from work. I went back in there and made sure those suckers were on there with a pair of needle nose. Just got back from test drive and everything SEEMS okay.
