Default Cv Axles to the tranny

I got an auto 97 se accord and i just put in new cv axles on both sides in the front of my car. When i put the cv axle where it goes into the tranny i hammered the end of the axle where the big nut goes on to until the cv was in the tranny pretty good however it wasnt flush and was wondering if it is suppose to be or not? i hammed as hard as i could and as much as i could and still it wasnt flush when i put it all together everything when on fine and it felt tight. But still theres a little gap between the tranny where the axle goes into and then the part on the cv axle thats round and meets the tranny (im having trouble explaining this lol, i could always take pics bu **** night right now but if it helps for me to take pics i can)

was wondering if there is suppose to be a little gap (not big enough to put my fingers in) or what. i put everything together and took it on a drive and it didnt click no more (YAY NO MORE CLICKING) and it felt tight and smooth and drove great but that was only for like 5 -10 mins of turnning on too street sand going straight etc.

again im having a hard time explaing so if my explinations hurt your brain tell me and ill take pics tomorrow however if you knwo what i mean then answer please.

Ive looked threw a manual and stuff and it really never says. Hers a pic of an axle just to help.

THERE WILL BE A LITTLE SPACE BETWEEN CV HOUSING AND TRANNY. VERY LITTLE THOUGH. YOU SHOULD HEAR AXLE POP IN WHEN THE CLIP ON THE SHAFT GOES IN THE GROOVE. TRY PULLING AXLE OUT WITH HAND. YOU SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO. ALSO USE OTHER SIDE AS A GAUGE. THEY BOTH SHOULD BE SAME DISTANCE FROM TRANNY HOUSING.
GOOD LUCK!
PICTURE WOULD BE NICE.

there should be a very small gap..
As long as it pop in.
you don't have to hit to get it in... It goes in pretty easy.

ya i tried to just push it in to the tranny b.c the old one came out easy just with a screw driver and i figured it would go in as easy adn when i put it in , it wouldnt go in very easy so i hit the very end where the big bolt is (while the big bolt was off) and had my brother do that while i look under the car and it started to go in adn then stoped and there is a gap.. but its not big enough to fit a finger in or nothing, but ill take a pic tomorrow most def and post it up before i go jaking my **** up and never neeeded to. thanks for the replys

Did the snap ring clip into place? The inner CV joint as a tapered side I believe, so it will probably look like there's a gap.

Here are pics. I tried my best lol i was in a hurry and my camera is messed up and doesnt work right but i managed a few pics. Where the gap is the darkest "black" colored part is the gap. Its not a big gap, just was making sure.

Try removing it. This will tell you if it is stuck or not. I had a similar problem with my civic axles. They were after market cheapes and when I tried to put one in it got stuck half way in. I used the weight of the steering nuckle to slam the axle in but it stopped a little ways out. When i tried to remove it wouldn't come out. Had to buy a half shaft removal tool from snap-on, have it machined so it would reach the splines from the other side of tranny. It took like eight swings with a big sledge hammer to remove.
Good luck!

hmm these arent aftermarket just regular axles i got from pepboys i even brought the old ones in and compared and eveyr single little thing was the same even the length, teeth, spacing, etc., and like i said when i removed the old ones they came out easy as hell just a screwdriver, poped it out and it slid out easy.. i didnt have to have no special tools or nothing. And like i said in my orginal posts i slammed the hell out of the front of the axle where the big lug nut goes and it started to go in UNTIL it got that far where the gap is then it just stoped no matter how hard i hit. i can always give it another try sense at the time i didnt wanna break anything.

but are you saying thats too big of a gap?

i do wonder though u think if i hammer to hard or to much it will f up something inside the tranny?

(sorry for al lthe questions, but damn im tired of the clicking lol so i want this stuff as perfect as it can get)

I understand what you are saying. Just look at your other one. Same space your okay, not the same your not okay. Your axles are aftermarket if they are not OEM ones. Also, if no tranny fluid is leaking I wouldn't worry about it.
Good Luck!

why do you resurect a 3 year old thread..? you can start a new one.. if you'd like.

anyway.. if you're axle keeps poping out, you need to fix it not just get it back in. maybe the snap ring is gone, maybe the axle is too short.. i can only speculate.
