as far as his insurance said, the cop was breaking the law. and there were plenty of witnesses, so it might turn out alright..i hope.. my cousin doesnt have full coverage

i always wondered about riding in between lanes. i think its one of those things where its not legal but everyone does it. damn foo..even web tv users like me and neezy got full coverage now.

how it happened
he has a bad head gasket, so his car tends to overheat when it idles for too long. Sitting in traffic = not good. He was in dead stop traffic when he noticed his needle was higher than normal, so he decides to jump out real quick and tell the fellas behind him. As soon as he cracked his door to the first click, BAMMM, Ponch hits him..

I was there. That was the craziest thing ever. I was looking down and I heard this loud thud. I look up and I see the cop rolling around on the ground. There was other people that saw the whole thing

the cop didnt die, he just hurt his leg i guess, now he gets to sit at home and get paid disability while watching re-runs of CHiP's
damn that sucks, that color blue looks really good with gunmetal. Damn that was a pretty car. Hope the miles aren't so high that the insurance company doesn't total it. Glad everybody is ok.
I knew that it was legal, but not smart. I think it's a very stupid law. unless there is some kind of an emergancy the cop(or any motorcycle driver) should not have the right to do this. It's just plain stupid

yeah this can go both ways...
If you were parallel parked on the street and you opened your door and a car or motorcylce for that matter hit it, its your fault for sure. You are always supposed to check your mirror or look back before opening your door on a busy street.
Because he was stopped on the freeway and everyone around him was stopped, he might be able to make the argument that he felt he didnt need to check his mirror because he could see the car next to him and it was at a complete stop.
I think that is what the insurance is going to go with.
The CHP's insurance should take care of his car, but that is kind of a conflict of interest if the CHP is the one who investigates and determins fault for this accident...
Let us know what happens.
