Default maintenance indicator

For the longest time my little "requires maintenance" color indicator was green but it just recently turned yellow, but my car runs fine. Does it mean there could be a minor problem with the car or is it because of the fact I'm about to hit 170k miles on it?

The indicator just turns colors after a certain amount of miles, works in conjunction with your odometer, next is red. You can reset it by pushing your key into the little slot next to it on the cluster. It will go back to green, no need to worry.

check the owner's manual to see what "should" be replaced at this time of your mileage.

i'm pretty sure it turns yellow at 5k miles, then red at 7.5k miles, after a reset.

Based from experience w/ my 92 Accord, the maintenance indicator turns yellow as a reminder that I need to change my oil soon. It then turn red within a hundred miles. The indicator comes sooner when I used non-synthetic oil and it never comes on when I used synthetic. I changed the oil between 4-5000K anyway instead of waiting for the indicator to turn yellow and red. I wonder if there is a system monitoring the condition of the oil that relay info to the indicator.
