Default How do I get more fuel??

Hey guys what do I have to do to get more fuel to my engine. I'm in the process of turboing my d16a6 and want to run 8 psi of intercooled turbo action. In order to do this I will need to get a higher air/fuel ratio so I dont detonate. I have an Air/Fuel Ratio gauge to keep my eye one it.

So im asking:

a. What ratio should be minimum for 8 psi intercooled
b. How do I get more fuel without using a stand alone?: injectors, fuel pump, fuel controller.

I though APEXi made a fuel controller for like 400 US that was supposed to give you more fuel???

THX guys'

can i just buy one of these at importparts.com for 350 US??? and get a safe amount of fuel? or do I need injectors and a fuel pump too?

If I bought that could I just get some injectors at a junkyard that perform well and a mustang 5.0L fuel pump???

THX guys

Anyone who has that APEXI fuel controller please post here so I can ask you questions. THX

450cc DSM injector install, mustang 5.0 fuel pump, fuel rail, adj. fuel pres. reg. Also, dont forget timing. Youre going to want to advance timing in the engine to meet the requirements of the high revs and boost. Go with like a 6BTM or a better ECU. Also, dont forget that I have an HF manifold for sale.

I have an Airtex fuel pump for sale if you need it. Flow rate is 255. Came w/ the DRAG turbo kits so it should give you enough fuel Email me if interested.

I'd say get an A/R gauge and a rising rate fuel pressure regulator with some bigger injectors. That will probably take care of you for a while. just make sure the a/r ratio is stoich or close to 14:1 i think.

wouldnt you want to retard your timing w/ boost? 5.0 pump require any mods to get it to work?

apparently the 5.0L mustang fuel pump just fits in with no mods.

advance your timing with boost not retard cause retarding can cause knocking even in no boost applications

NO you will want to back timing off a little not advance it. I am putting together a junk yard turbo right now and will be using some prelude injectors they're 290 cc for the saturated ones - '97up. So hopefully these will not go too rich at idle. Also the vortech FMU with the 8:1 ratio is supposed to work ok with the lude injectors.
Even with this setup if you are running 8 lbs of boost the fuel pressure will be around 100psi

Retard Timing= to back off timing from TDC to ignite the flame front after the piston has already left TDC on the power stroke.

Advance Timing= to advance timing from TDC to ignite the flame front before the piston reaches TDC on the power stroke.

As you can see retarding the timing will cause power losses as well as excessive engine wear on the exhaust stroke due to the air/fuel mixture still burning. also, the thing will probably lean itself out due to the O2 sensor reading a more rich condition, causing even more predetonation.

predetonation occures before piston is at top of its stroke. not after tdc. advancing timing causes predetonation. retarding causes post. so your saying advance your timing for turbo... this aplies to n2o as well (boost)? cause it sure as hell doesnt. any fi requires a retardation of timing to counter act predetionation

retarding timing usually does create hp loss over stock timing. advanced timing over stock can and will most often do the same.

grrrr..........damn my auto shop teacher......DAMN HIM TO HELL!!!!!...........wtf was i thinking........advance timing....i knew it was retard but no.....i had to go off and ask someone who has an ASE certification who DOESNT KNOW **** ABOUT TURBOS!!!! and even after i read that book by Corky Bell............. My bad all.....

run NO MORE than 14:1 air fuel ratio. anything under leans and causes detonation. 14:1 is optimum but much easier to obtain a higher ratio (less tuning involved). when in doubt run the motor rich as hell. reduction in power (slightly) no reduction in wallet for a new motor this ratio applies to ALL piston engines not just hondas. may apply for rotarys but im not sure.

and you will need to retard your timing 2-3 (possible 4) degrees off of tdc for your turbo

Yes, the apexi VAFC can add more fuel, but I would still get a adj. fuel presure regulator, 5.0 pump, and msd sells a BTM ( not the 6BTM ) that retards the timing per pound of boost ( ex: a setting of 3 on the BTM would retard the timing 15* at 5 psi ) now you can buy the 6BTM but it cost like a $100 bucks more. I'm going to be using some 450cc DSM injectors along with the VAFC to get it to idle... Check Ebay for the VAFC.. Just do what ever it takes to stay away for predetination !!! The first or second time to detinated a civic motor, WAVE, because your rods are going BYE BYE !!! Stay rich, and don't get boost greedy ( Like I do with NOS )...

APEXI VAFC ROCKS !!!

the way i see it, if youre going to buy a MSD box anyway, why not go for the better spark, etc. of the 6BTM? its got everything the 6AL does and the BTM controller built in. Also, a rising rate fuel pressure regulator is probably best to have in turbo situations, due to the fact that it adjusts fuel pressure according psi. Does the V-AFC work with non-VTEC cars? Im interested to know too due to my B18A1 swap that may go LS/VTEC in the future. Youre running a ZC right 89 CRX SI?

Well get some bigger injectors like some dsm's (they are cheap and easy to find) and a bigger fuel pump. And a regulator.

THX a lot it seems i will be runnning.:

APEXi VACF
5.0L fuel pump
RC injectors
FMU
FPR
SS fuel line (might as well redo the hole system)
New Fuel Filter

For air:

280ZX Turbo its a T3
HF manifold
Greddy BOV
Greddy Boost Controller
Autometer: air/fuel gauge, boost/vacumm, exhaust gas temp
3" down pipe
2.5" exhaust w/ no cat or resonator
APEXi Turbo Timer

For style/security:

Auto Loc alarm
WW RS Body Kit
GSR Rims

and more to come

Wait, what are you running the HF manifold on, the B18C5 or your D16A6?

VAFC works with non vtec cars they have a diff one for VTEC cars tho.

Im using the HF manifold for my turbo manifold
