Removing/Reinstalling Air Conditioning...
Hey everyone,
I have a question that I haven't been able to get a solid answer to....
I have a '96 Civic HX and a '96 CX. The HX has all the goodies like P/S, P/W, P/L, and A/C. The CX is the base model with no added power accessories. But the CX is lighter and better for a turbo kit and I am planning on selling the HX anyway. Well...I want to put the Air Conditioning from the HX into the CX. Has anyone here done it, have any input on how it can be done, or know of a DIY anywhere? Thanks for whatever help you can give me!!!

Re: Removing/Reinstalling Air Conditioning... (skytanker2003)
i did it in my daily driver CX...i made a parts list-let me find it and i'll post it up.
can't find the post..anyway.
you'll need to remove all the parts in the engine bay.that includes:
compressor
condenser
fan
all hard and soft lines up to the firewall, and everything connected to them
wiring harness that goes fom the compressor area over to plug in behind the passenger headlight
inside the car:
the evaporator box
A/C switch from the dash.
some pics to clarify:
the evaporator box is what's located under the dash.it's parts #4 and 5.
part #23 is the harness that goes behind the radiator, over to the compressor.
these are all the hoses and pipes you'll need to remove.also pictured are the condensor, evaporator box, drier and compressor.
the entire setup,assembled.
plug the harness in on the new car(the plug is there, just nothing going to it).
put all the components into the engine bay.
install the switch into the dash
install the evaporator box into between the heater core and fanbox.it will replace the empty box that's currently there-put that in the old car to take the place of what you removed.
there may be a relay that needs to be swapped over too-it's been so long i can't remember.compare the underhood fuse boxes on both cars and see if there's anything A/C related.
replace the dyer and expansion valve whiel it's all apart.also replace all o-rings.
recharge the system and you're done.
this is just a quick rundown.if i missed anything or you have any questions, let me know.

Hey, thanks for the quick and detailed info! If you can find me the legend so I know what some of those numbers are, that would be great...but if not, that's okay! It looks like it's prolly out of the Honda dealership's big book of parts! Anyway...Thanks again!!!

sounds like nextgen knows wtf is up on this shizzy...... just remember to have your lines vacuumed out BEFORE you recharge the system (you should be able to find any a/c shop/tech to do this for you, and requires a machine to do so). then leave the vacuum in the lines for when you charge it
just my $0.02
just my $0.02

that's definitely the route to take.
i'm a cheapass though, and just assembled everything(remember to use new O-rings,and clean and dry all the lines thoroughly)and recharged the system.no problems doing it that way.
