Stupid people shouldnt drive (another accident)
Well, I knew sooner or later I would be in here posting about an accident I had because of someone not paying attention, and here I am.
So I go home on leave to throw my parents a 25th anniversary party and decided to trailer my bike up there to Connecticut. I live in Georgia now and the riding here blows ***, so I thought the northeast would be nice to ride. And it was, while it lasted.
Well I am going to be another one of the people here praising gear because it saved me and my brothers ***'s. I took my bro out to a parking lot for a couple hours and taught him the basics of riding. So when it was time to go back home and get some lunch we both jumped on and headed home.
Well I was going down a side street 25 mph zone doing about 30-35ish (wasnt paying attention to the speedo) and the next thing I see is a white Altima infront of me then Boom! I guess after the impact the bike went flying in the air and slammed into the back of a parked car.
It was that quick. I hit the brakes for maybe 10 feet and hit her head on. I probebly would have just side swiped her but as soon as she saw me she slammed on the brakes, so instead it was head on. I was stopped my the bike and car. My brother slammed into the back of me and went flying down the road.
Here is the intersection she was supposed to stop at (thats my bro a week after)

and here is how much time I locked the rear wheel up for

Ok injury's...
First of all GEAR SAVES!
I always wear gear at a minimun to include my Shoei x-11 helmet, Joe Rocket alter ego jacket, draggin jeans, Icon motorhead boots, and Joe Rocket pheonix gloves.
Thats what I was wearing and ended up with lacerations to my Spleen and left kidney with internal bleeding, a halfway colapsed left lung, a little rug burn on my left elbow from inside my jacket, an extremly sore left sholder, a left pinky that doesnt work and isnt broken(they have no idea what happend to it), and the most sore back I have ever had. I was my brothers cushion. No broken bones!
My brother just had a pretty good concushon. He doesnt even remember being on the bike at all that day. His Helmet slammed into the back of mine. Goes to show the difference between helmets. He was wearing an HJC CL-14 and I was wearing my Shoei. I didnt even have a headache, but he was really out of it.
He was wearing all the same stuff as mee except for boots, and he had a leather jacket on.
Well I know you all want to see the bike so here ya go.

I have alot more of all the damage, but long story short its totaled. The frame is tweeked, and every peice of the bike has rash on it to include the swingarm and even the brand new ******* chain I just put on.
So I am out a bike, alot of work, alot of gear, and still have to deal with alot of pain. I am just glad I didnt die. Her insurance is already forking over money for the bike and gear, but the over 100, 000 dollars in medical bills are a slow and painfull process.

Granted, and granted. Add at least a few feet to that figure, though, because he had a 160 pound dude on the back. A lot of folks are terrible riders with passengers... the extra effort and force seem to send them back into survival mode.

Sounds about right.
My friend who was hit on the highway was hit with 80k for mainly a broken leg (in many different places now with plates and screws) and life flight. Luckily insurance covered around 75 of that.

I didn't read that... Sorry about throwing stones.

Not 2 up... I don't think.
$100k seems pretty routine given he had fairly serious injuries.

Yeah I was 2 up, and yeah the rear brake locked up on me. I am just glad the front didnt lock up. I didnt even have time to say oh ****. So I was in complete survival mode.
100k in bills mostly had to do with the 2 days I spent in the critcal care unit. There is probebly going to be alot more that that. They are starting physical therepy soon for my back, and I need to soo an orthopedic surgeon for my messed up pinky.

I don't want to sound like a dick, although I inevitably do, but I think your pinky injury is awesome. Seriously, that's a hell of a story.
Girl: what happened to your finger?
You: Well, I had a pretty bad motorcycle accident and... well, they just don't know.
Girl: They don't know?
You: Nope, it just stopped working. Hey, want to sleep with me?
Girl: You poor thing! Lets go to your place right away!

Buddy of mine hit a tree....not the bike but flew off and hit it himself. Broke his right femure, broke his left hip, deep laceration to lower left leg and almost bled out in front of me. Stayed in the hospital for 2 wks or more. = more than 500k in bills

Yeah I already tried that but the girl was more interested in the internal bleeding and lung **** than the screwed up pinky.

Glad to hear ur not in worse shape, and insurance is covering ur loss
but 100k seems high as hell. I just had 2 brain surgeries and a chest surgery (about $30,000 worth of implants) and my bill was only around the $140,000 mark total. Goes to show everything in a hospital is expensive even down to the toilet paper they wipe ur *** with, must all be made outta gold

Haha yeah I got that from my F16 days.

I read your initial post, and still don't quite understand what happened...you and a car hit head-on...was she taking a right hand turn really wide?
No she was going straight across the street I was on. And because the side street she was on is angled to my street it was head on.
Its not setup like a block its at about a 45 degree angle to my road. If you look at the pic again with my bro you can see the road makes a kind of fork instead of a T.
I hope that makes sense. I am still doped up on pain killers and muscle relaxers so its hard for me to concentrate on typing and thinking at the same time...LOL

EDIT: i know its not really your fault this time but there is always a lesson to be learned.

If its her fault and she is insured, he shouldnt have to pay a dime.

"shouldnt" = Key word.
There was an accident here in FL where one of the bikers was yielding to a cop pulling out from the side street but the girl behind the bike didnt notice and just rear ended the bike. The girl's insurance only covered a small bit and now the guy is SOL

Well from what I have gathered from all the insurance people I have talked to already, they are going to cover everything. I am going to hire a lawyer anyway, because if they dont pay willingly they will have to pay in court. I am by no means capable of paying any of these bills. THANK GOD for insurance.
All my medical bills havnt been paid yet because I am still receiving treatment, meds and getting alot more x-rays and MRIs to determine what the hell is wrong woth my pinky and sholder.
As for mistakes, yeah I did make some in that I should not have taken that road. It only takes like 1 min off the trip back to my parents house, so I should have just stayed the course. Also, I think I probebly grabbed to much front brake along with the rear brake. I know for a fact that I locked up the rear, but I am still trying to remember how the bike felt just before impact to see if I did grab too much front also.
I dont know if I am going to get another bike or not. I just hate being at the mercy of stupid people on the road. If only there was a track close by...
I just talked to the guy handling the bike and gear portion of my claim. They are going to cut me a check for $4175 for the bike and $1680 for all the gear my bro and I had on. The only shitty part is I had to give the gear to the adjuster to "prove" I bought them. What kinda bullshit is that?
