b18c5 head > b16 > gsr

but, from what i understand, the c5 head is just a ported b16 head with a more aggressive cam, though i could be slightly confused on that.

yeah true..the type-r head is the same casting as the normal b16 head both have PR3 stamped on them,,,just the type-r head is ported and polished from honda, has more aggresive cams ,and valve train that can handle higher revving,,also has a bigger intake manifold and throttle body....But they are not cheap,,

the type R head is a b16 head with the quenches in the combustion chamber reqorked for more compression. port and polish? maybe, type R's are hand built engines.

either way, if you get a gsr head, use gsr pistons. b16/R head, use b16 pistons. the heads have the valves at different angles, so the valve reliefs are different between the piston types.

if you are gonna really build up the motor ALL THE WAY, use a gsr head. the intake ports sit higher up on the head so the intake charge will flow into the combustion chamber a bit better. if not, type R for the more aggresive cams!!!

GO B16A Take the money you were going to spend on the TypeR and maybe get a port and polish or cams or something worth while.

stock for stock its:

itr>gsr>b16

itr does have a slight port job, that does yeild some more power, along with the more agresive cams. itr head give no more compression then a b16, they are the same cast (pr3) type r just has the port work. most expensive head.

gsr is a completely different cast (p72) and has the quench area flush with the head for a smaller combustion chamber and ultimately more compression (everything else equal). this yeilds more power. sometimes can be a tad expensive

b16 head. cheap, easy to find, still a good choice. the most popular choice due to availability and price.

IMO the GSR head is the best choice. once you get into porting it and running more aggresive cams, the stock configuration goes ou the window. IMO the gsr head will always be superior due to its higher compression.

If you put work into any of the aformentioned heads it won't matter. Just get the head that best fits your budget.

except the gsr, it will always have more compression.

+1 here.
I feel gsr is best out of them all once you start working.

Also the castings are newer often. GSR head is a great part for B series heads.

i have seen a complete gsr motor, fully built and tuned, all motor put down 250, with no juice at the dyno. With the exception of a LS crank the motor was all gsr, which brings me to the conclusion that with the newer castings and and smaller combustion chambers (equalling higher compression) the gsr is a superior all-motor engine. as pendejon and *** said.
