Default wideband O2 sensors, what are they?

I think thats what there called. Either way I've heard of a different type of 02 sensor I could buy for a car that is more advanced then the one on it. What good would that do and were could I buy them.

Wideband O2 sensors are sensors that more precisely measure air/fuel ratio on a 0-5V scale as opposed to a standard 0-1V unit. They can't be just directly read though, they require a controller to compesate for temperature, so they are usually bought in a kit.
