I noticed the website was down too so I did some looking and saw this:

Registrant:
American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
1919 Torrance Blvd, ISD-NS
Torrance, CA 90501
US

Domain Name: A-SPEC-RACING.COM

Administrative Contact, Technical Contact:
American Honda Motor Co., Inc. hostmaster@ahm.honda.com
1919 Torrance Blvd, ISD-NS
Torrance, CA 90501
US
310-783-2518 fax: 310-781-5007

I know that they call their in-house road race team A-Spec, so I guess they pulled a bully move and took the website away? Anyway, it just struck me as strange.

I'm appalled by kteller, even though I'd never order from him anyway (due to past experience with him talking all kinds of sh*t and being generally unprefessional) that just seals the deal to never order from him! That guy is shady

Didn't they do something similar with Honda Motors Online (now HMotorsonline) a while back, like last year? Only they didn't take over the domain name, just forced Steve to change it?

They did it to JDMHondaParts.com too ... AKA JHPUSA.com now, and a few others. Honda doesn't like it's enthusiasts very much I guess?

Why is it a bully move?

They are the one who first came up with A-Spec name or any Honda name. They have every right to protect their name from someone that might benefit from using the same name. Not to mention the possibility of smearing their name with inferior product or people might think there are connection with Honda as parent company.

OK I looked it up and they did trademark A-Spec starting in Sept. 2003, so they could go after them, but it seems hard to say ASR is infringing on the trademark when the Honda's goods and services listed for A-Spec are:

Automobiles with, and custom packages of, such premium structural parts as alloy wheels, tires, sport suspensions, body panels, spoilers, brake pads, shift ***** and steering wheels

Posters distributed to the public

Coffee cups and mugs

Key rings made of non-precious metal

Landyards made of nylon, cotton webbing, string material, and woven plastic for carrying and displaying identification badges, security passes, name tags and similar materials

Clothing, namely T-shirts, jackets and hats

Watches

Toy automobiles, namely plastic model kits of cars, collectable die-cast replica models and motorized cars operated by remote control.

I'm sure Honda has more money to spend on a legal fight than Charlston does though

You guys are right on. Honda NA wasn't too happy with the domain name of A Spec Racing therefore, we are forced to change it.

Initially we weren't too happy about Hondas demands but I think the name change is for the better, since it will make our name more distinctive to the customers.

The new website will be http://www.asrparts.com (site still being constructed and will be up soon)

For the meantime anyone can contact me here on HT pm or AIM ASRTECH

Or email Charleston@asrparts.com

I appologize for not informing the public about the domain name change and for any inconvenience it may have caused. Thank you for understanding.

Charleston

Good for you, but they don't sell ASR anymore, just really crap knockoffs now. Go read the thread. Oh and looks like they still use the ASR picture to try and confuse people into buying them.

No, I never will. I've always felt that he was a dick and would never buy from him, but the ASR copycat issue sealed the deal. Even if he does start selling the real ones again, I'll buy mine from a reputable place.
