$1000 what should I do?
So I am hoping by the end of the summer I should have close to $1000 saved up. What should I put in my car?
Right now I am really wanting the DOHC ZC, but then some people seem to like the D15B SOHC VTEC better or like the D16Z6 or other stuff. My car is an automatic so I would probably have to do a manual swap (NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO!). Which motor would you go for? Which tranny? What would be the build cost to try to keep it around $1000.
Also I have been looking into sticking with an automatic but then just getting a stall converter. It will make it launch like crazy cause I can adjust it to where when I really step on it, it will automatically go to a certain RPMs before going. Just an idea my friends dad had that I thought would be cool and it is something I don't realy see that often.
Also, I work at NAPA so parts discount would be possible for stuff too in case anyone knows of an idea that would save me money from buying parts from NAPA.
PLEASE HELP!
PS I was also thinking about using the money to try to buy a Civic Si that doesn't run worth **** but hopefully has a clean body. Then selling my car to fund a motor swap in the Si. Good idea?
Here is my car, it is extremely clean!

automatic tranny
$1000 doesn't last long with any engine swap. You might want to think about getting the sohc zc and then get the zc tranny from hmotorsonline. You're really going to have to pinch your pennies.

stick w/ your hatch, clean straight and rust free are hard to come by for cheap.
i'd spend the money on a manual swap to start. get a Si tranny. (90-91) and go from there, that will probably eat up most of the $1000 after a new clutch, throwout bearing flywheel axles etc..

I would say sell your current car. Take any aftermarket parts off the current one and put stock parts back on.
Find a swapped car for a decent price and work from there. The auto tranny will eat up a lot of time and money.

Keep your hatch for sure, its really clean. An automatic wouldnt be a bad idea, at least not for a little while. It would be pretty cool to see a DOHC ZC automatic car. If you dont like it/blow the tranny then you can always convert it.

Dont sell the car. The car is one of the cleanest hatchs I have seen in a long time. If it was me I would invest my money converting it over to manual. If you can get it down with 200 bucks then I would take the 800 and invest in a little sohc vtec or something. You might have to save up for alittle while longer but it would be worth it in the long run. Nice car though man.
CLEAN *** HATCH! Don't sell that thing...You can pick up a a6/z6/y8 full swap fairly cheap..the manual conversion isnt bad.. Spend your weekends at junkyards like most of us do and you'll find everything your looking for

then you could always get a ZC down the road

i would say keep your hatch, and get rid of that auto tranny, if you could find one for cheap enough, and got a decient clutch kit, you would have close to enough to get a single cam zc from hmotors
i say keep it, screw the engine swap for now, just convert yours to MPFI for $100, pick up an Si tranny ( $50-150), go on ebay and get one of those XTD stage 1 or 2 clutch and lightened flywheel packages for $250 shipped, spend $150-200 on your 5sp swap (pedal set form junkyard, junkyard linkage or from somebody on here, etc...), $120 for 2 rebuilt lifetime warrentied axles from autozone and poof for no more than $800-900 you have a decent setup that will be much more enjoyable to drive. come up with another $400-500 and you can have a nice spring/strut combo.
Very nice hatch, find a cheap a6 or sohc zc, or d15b, get an Si tranny and try to do it all urself, it will probably cost up to and maybe over $1000, but it will be worth it if u do it right...
Clutch, throwout, make sure u put new seals/HG and stuff into the engine too.

Wow, I never thought I would get this many replies. So I am liking the idea of getting an Si tranny and bolting that to my current motor. It would suck to still have the crappy motor but I am sure the tranny would make it a little faster.
Question though...
Which motors will the Si tranny bolt up to?
DOHC ZC, D15BVTEC SOHC, etc?
That way I could just work on the tranny for one weekend or such and get the car halfway there, and then save up a while longer and get the motor later.
I kind of really wanna keep my car, I know it is really clean and I like that, kind of a sleeper too.
And as for the tranny, how much work is it really to swap that? I will search for it.
I don't know what parts NAPA would have that would make the swap cheaper for me (discount) but that would help too.
Thanks a ton, I am sure I will have more questions in the future.

why not swap in a d16a6? im sure you could find one with tranny for less than 500. then you need the ecu and wiring harness and it pretty much bolts in.
After reading through the searches I came up with, I don't think I have the skills to do an auto to manual swap!
Ugh, maybe I should just keep my civic an auto and make the best of it.
After all, it would still be faster than what I have now...
Or maybe I could just save up that money an leave my civic as a stock DD and buy my friends 92 Eagle Talon TSi AWD or something that is already pretty fast.
