It's been done. Although...

A) they can hardly stand any power without major modifacation.
B) the loss of power sucked up by the drivetrain hardly makes the slightly better launch worth it...

C) You cut the **** out of your to custom fab everything
D) You ruin your crx to the point of no return

Definitly not worth it if you like your crx.

yeah, ive seen this before, i think i even posted it on here a few years ago bottom line, the project is an absolute nightmare, and the finished product is sketchy at best, that wagon drivetrain is not nearly strong enough for any type of hard driving application with lots of power. It is such a cool concept but honestly, crxs are ff, if you want awd get an evo, a subie, or somthing like that. or maybe i am just a lazy retard who woudlnt want to get involved with a project of that magnatude

why didn't he just use the stock torsion beam rear suspension with solid rear axle? seems like that woulda been easier

Uh-huh...what are you basing this on? Something you read on the internets?

There are very few wagons, and even less with 4wd, floating around the Honda performance community.
This means (a) there is very little first hand knowledge and (b) such a small sampling group that its hard to establish trends like the "4wd is weak".
Over on the wagon board, threads about the 4wd system failing are very rare. The fact is, they 4wd is one on the most reliable, maintenance free items on the wagon. And a lot of us add power...there are plenty of people putting an additional 50% hp over stock with no problems. I'm putting out around 125-130hp(70hp stock) on a stock, unmodified 4wd system with 190k on it. The 4wd is the least of my worries.
Part of the reason you see lower hp numbers on wagons, on average, is that they are limited to the D-series engines if they want to keep the 4wd. I don't want to hear **** about D-series potential. Wrong topic.

The other part of this ignorant HT myth...
The Honda 4wd is designed for loose traction situations like gravel/dirt, snow or wet asphalt. Rev to 6000rpms and drop the clutch on dry pavement (for a four wheel burnout) and something is going to break. But that holds true for most 4wd vehicles...Subaru and Mitsubishi included.
Treat it reasonably and it will provide tons of reliability, fun and safety.

what do you mean the stock torsion bar and solid axle? that only came in the oldshool wagons.
the only thing i ever broke on my turbo wagon at 10psi was the front diff mount bolts kept pulling out of the body!

I have launched my wagon at the rev limiter on dry pavement many times with no ill effects, I did blow up a a6 on 12 psi but I had two awd wagons so I have plenty of parts for the awd hatch if something does go. The hatch also wieghs less so I dont see a problem. Somebody needs to go watch leeds videos of his wagon on HMT and comeback and tell us how week it is.

no, there was a dude that built one like 3 or 4 years ago, it ran and everything, he used the wagon awd drivetrain and had a built turbo b series in it, im sure you can find it if you search awd crx or somthing on archives

wait, nevermind, the dude above me just posted the link

Uh, yeah...no wagon parts there. That's all CRV stuff. BIG difference.
Try putting a B-series engine on a wagon D tranny. It ain't happening.
