F22a1 crank pulley bolt doesn't fit f22a1 please read
I just pulled my f22a1 out of a 91 accord lx wagon and replaced it with an f22a1 from a 96 prelude that I rebuilt. I replaced all seals, gaskets yada did not touch the block as it was low miles. It did not come with crank pulley or bolt, no big deal I have all missing pieces off my original motor.
Anyway my question which I have an answer to.
The crank pulley bolt is not a big enough diameter to fit in the new engine. my answer - I went to honda and had service manager (who I know) look up part numbers and they are identical for both engine models.
Why is it not big enough? The threads look good inside the crank shaft of this engine.
This is the only thing holding me up from finishing this swap and driving my wagon again. I am no dummy when it comes to honda engines but this really stumps me as all f-series engines are the same. I even talked to the guy from where the engine came (I work with him, he did an H22 swap on a prelude LOL).
Has anyone heard or know of this? Should I just buy a new bolt to match. I live where the oil fields are booming and there are more businesses that sell nothing but bolts than I have ever seen. Or is this a flaw in the system of Honda?
Please serious intelligent answers with possible proof to back it up. I would rather not switch cranks due to all new seals and gaskets but that is looking to be one option.
Thanks in advance.

I don't honestly understand why this happened...I would suggest maybe getting a new crank pulley bolt from honda and see if that works, if not then a trip to the hardware store might resolve this issue.
VERY odd.....
VERY odd.....
This is an odd problem and I honestly have never heard of this before. First you could measure the threads in the crank. Then, you might try and run a tap into the crank to see if the threads are indeed ok just to make sure. Try that on both cranks and see where the difference is.
I know that H22's have 2 different sizes for the crank pulley bolts. Maybe you have a really wierd engine and the bolt is a different size?

Are you sure the crank wasn't swapped with an H22 in the past? Don't know if the bolts are different between F22 and H22, but it's an idea.
obdI crankpulley bolts are different than obdII. (dont know exact size) i was under the impression that obdI were 19mm socket and obdII were 17mm. thats the way ive always seen it on b-series honda motors...

I checked out the thread and that is interesting, I will further pursue. I would really rather use Honda oem bolt than anything else.
Also this is a 19 mm bolt and car is obd1. the engine I have now is obd II.
The guy I got it from said they used this F22 bolt and crank pulley on the H22 he got so that is why I have no crank or bolt from the original engine.
Weird and will post results when I get this done. May take a week or so with work and other things.
Any help will be taken into consideration and appreciated.

I have found this so far. They have two bolt sizes.
14X33 for the small one PN: 90017-PT0-003
16X49 is the big one PN: 90017-PY3-003
Check the thread I previously posted. Thanks I R Tylor for that. I was freaking out for a minute. I have this engine half in for like 2 weeks now and need the driveway for another car. This was going to be a 2 day event until this crap happened. Go figure.
Thanks for posts and I will inform of what I find out. Gotta call local Honda D-ship.
