Default 99 Civic EX brake rotors warped...

Anybody else have this problem with the front rotors on their Civic? Should I replace them with Brembos, Powerslots or ? Any suggestions as to rotors or pads?

mine's are warped...98 EX...but it could be due to track use for me. replace w/ brembo BLANKS (as in "don't get drilled or slotted rotors"!). or you could turn them, but that'll just make then warp more easily the next time.

Overtightening lug nuts warps rotors too. If you machine them - use an on car brake lathe or you will be wasting your time.

My buddies car had brand new oem rotors warp after 15-20k miles of normal use. He has never had this problem on any of his other hondas, even the one he raced.

I think it is a problem with the EX's themselves. Maybe it is the caliper and it doesnt float correctly. I dont know, we havn't figured it out.

Yeah my g/fs 99 ex has the same problem. Will other rotors fix it or do you thinks it's the brakes themselves?

The EX's come with the same rotors that are on ALL integras, so I am pretty sure it isnt the rotors. I belive there is a difference in the calipers though, majestic lists two different reference number between the EX and the SI (same as GSR).

So I am leaning towards the caliper design. But who the hell knows.

Honda uses too small of brakes on all their cars- if you want it not to warp either be easier on the brakes or upgrade to a larger design.

Thanks for everbody's help. I will probably go with the Brembo blanks with some new pads and hope for the best. My rotors warped at like 18k miles. Not too impressive. But hey, that's the only thing that has gone wrong with the car so I can't complain too much.

i think that Ex are just prone to wraped rotors. Not to mention u neeed to change pads more frequent.
I have an Ex and i already wraped rotor for sencond time and i only have 50000 miles or so. My moms' accord with 70000+ never wraped rotors and only change pads once.
I guess we have to deal with this.

Autozone - sometimes as low as $22 a rotor PLUS 90 day warranty, a good deal if you plan to put your car on a track

I warped my rotors on my EG by washing the car just after getting home from a drive. It was in the winter time, and the water comming out of the hose was very COLD, and the rotors were quite hot..and you guessed it...I was washing the salt off the wheels and water splashed on the rotors. I had lots of steam and warped rotors to boot! How exciting Anyways...my stupid fault...but please don't let my ignorance be your ignorance too!

later!

Back it up, maybe you can clarify it so that it isn't a blanket statement.

Shall we look at all the guys with ITRs, SIs, GSRs that race their cars(TRACK) with stock sized rotors and stock calipers with only the addition of better fluid and pads?

Now if we are talking about non si civics, the 9.5" front brakes are pretty shitty, but are more then enough for daily drivers and most auto-xers.

It all comes down to how well you bleed your system and the types of pads you use.

But to say that ALL hondas have crappy brakes is pretty stupid.

Yeah i got the 9.5in brakes on my 93 si hb. Thay didn't upgrade untill 94 with the larger rotors. It's cheaper for me to get the fastbrakes 11in kit for my car then to got through the trouble of swaping spendals and all that. Anyone know how much of a discount h-t members get? I email the guy and he never got back to me.

Got told? WTF?
I imagine you didn't do too many brake jobs this week- did you? When you work on 12 to 15 Hondas a day you tend to notice similarities. The only Honda I have driven that had decent brakes was the S2000. The 94 and 95 civic ex brakes are decent but they still warp. 99-00 Si's are even better. Of course they are all ok for daily drivers with one person in the car- but most people tend to travel with passengers. That puts alot of heat in the rotors. Some people bitch about it and some don't. Preludes, accords, civics, del sols, crxs, odysseys- they all warp. Some people who know how to drive a Honda can prevent warping- but people with GM feet don't get the hang of it. So the bottom line- for the general public- Hondas brakes suck- look in consumer reports ratings- brakes suck. If you know how to drive and know when to let off the brakes you'll probably be ok. How many hondas did you drive today? If they are so great why do you "upgrade" the pads and fluid- Fluid has JACK **** to do with warping rotors. But then again what the hell do I know? Maybe if I autocrossed 1 civic and had 2 friends that did the same I could make general statements about how good Hondas brakes are. Last time I checked- ITR and GSR's weren't in the Honda line. Do some research and drive a few thousand Hondas before you go bashing people with real world experience.

still blanket statement.

Just because you fix hondas all day long does not mean that ALL HONDA BRAKES SUCK. There are a 1000 times more hondas on the road that dont have brake problems.

"Fluid has JACK **** to do with warping rotors"
Where did I say that fluid warped rotors? WTH

"Last time I checked- ITR and GSR's weren't in the Honda line."
Now thats a pretty retarded statement especially considering that the ITR is extremely similar to accords and preludes, the GSR is the same as SI. (referring to their brake systems, size etc)

Like I said, between me and all my friends, there have been at least 50 different hondas that I have had first hand knowledge of, and the only one that has its rotors constantly warping are my buddies 97 EX.

"If they are so great why do you "upgrade" the pads and fluid"
Because plan on doing more with my car then street driving, namely autox and track events.

"Do some research and drive a few thousand Hondas before you go bashing people with real world experience."
And again, your "research" is tainted, since you FIX HONDAS. You are only going to see cars with problems.

You sound pretty disgruntaled to me, maybe you should work on and drive a GM instead.

I have 98,000 miles on my stock rotors, and there not warped, done about 6 trackdays with 'em and only changed the pads once...that was at 75,000 miles.

I think I should change the rotors soon though, only cus I have a little extra cash to play around with.
