Default How high a mileage have you got with 200whp engine?

Ok, most of us daily drive our cars. But with high lift cams which put stress in rocker arms etc., I would like to know if there is anyone here who has logged 50k miles or more with the usual upgrade. Meaning an aftermarket cam, maybe stage 2 or 3 that have 12mm lift, 12:1 static comp, TI retainers, dual valve springs and the rest. You get the picture. Are we realistically looking at high mileage cars with our set -up?

BTW, my car is in the shop and am installing CTR pistons, jun 3 cams with jun springs and type 2 ti retainers. Car is a JDM ITR. Anyfeedback is welcome. I just want to know how long my motor will last.

Bump for more inputs.

So your h22 has 48k miles on it? Your retainers are stock? I heard of horror stories on TI retainers but think that most manufacturers improved the quality of the TI thereby making them last longer.

202whp
41k
81.5mm

Sk2 stg2 cams
with TI retainers
driven the car every day for the last four years.

Any motor will last if put together right...well that and you don't beat the **** out of it.

If you want your motor to last, I'd advise you to ditch the CTR pistons. That's a lot of dome for a DD. Pretty much any oem piston will work better IMO.

Hopefully this thread is meant to build up a database of sort for other guys who are looking at building up their motors. For instance, i hear of stroker motors getting wrecked with only 10k miles on them. Most of you guys have been in HT for 5 years and have gone thru numerous threads. Why not share the info?

I'm not sure if I'm following you. I don't beat the **** out of my motor...or should I say "drive like a I stole it". I get into it from time to time, but for the most part, I don't see the reason drive in vtec.

bump for more I too would like to break into the 200+whp club one of these days with the b16 that I have now in the car or maybe move up on displacement, I also want to know how reliable these tuned motors can handle on a DD basis.
I dont really go often to the races out here since everyone is boostin and money bets but I do want some power in tap and just boogie on out with the whip when I want to

A well tuned high compression VTEC beast will get sick gas mileage if you keep it out of VTEC and have a good part-throttle tune.

You should really get the lead removed from your right foot. It's poisonous.

sportyaccordy-

Would that be a good part-throttle tune for a slightly leaner mixture and mildly retatred ignition timing, or just a straight-up normalized timing for 13.8?

195 HP LS VTEC (close enough )
driven daily for 15,000 miles. No problems whatsoever.

I'd go with the latter, maybe a slightly higher ratio, like 14.0 even maybe just for insurance. The little amount of gas you'd save going up a point in A/F ratio isn't worth the costs of detonation.

I have heard of people running crazy high ratios (like 16:1) under very low load conditions though...but honestly I'm no expert.

ITR Motor 119k has been modded since about 20k with intake header cams vs and retainers, customer took it to 85-9k daily never had a probelem (200whp)

old JDM GSR block has a least 80-90k, ITR head cams header exhaust etc makes high 180's. Get the crapo beat out of it every time its driven for sure. DAily driven for the last 2 years.

60k on Stock JDM ITR motor. Big cams, VS and Retainers all the other usual blotons, 200whp, not daily driven but sure does get beat on at the track, no signs of wear at all !! 6-9k for 15-20 minutes no problem !!
