Old school management PART 3.....17-18 psi, stock ls/60trim...
Well its been a few months of running 13-15 psi on my setup..For those who dont remember I was running basically an fmu/inline/intank/310cc inj setup, along with a msd btm to pull timing..All this on a stock ls setup with a t3-to4e 60 trim turbo...The car has been running flawlessly, but I wanted to --well you know add some more boost...
One of my friends was nice enough to let me borrow a set of 370cc injectors..So I threw them in and as I figured the stock ecu didnt really like to idle or run at anything leaner than a 10.0 a/f, and didnt really like anything past 1/4 throttle which resulted in a horribly rich condition..(go figure, right
).. So I actually broke down and spent 150 bucks on a used safc for my project car... Now I know all about the negative timing affects the AFC's have, but all I wanted to do was take out the fuel down low to make the car driveable and use NO fuel correction up top so my timing doesent advance under boost...Makes a little sense, right??
So now I am able to boost, (once again, bite your tounge), 17-18 psi on pump gas with this setup..The a/f is LOW 11s under boost and I verified my TOTAL TIMING at 14 deg under full boost...So far the plugs look perfect and theres no sighns of detonation...I will hopefully be going down to the track to try and beat my old time of 11.90@116 (on 13-14 psi)....So wish me luck and feel free to comment as always..
(no bashing please..

How much power does your car make? Its a completely stock LS? I doing something similar exept with a stock gsr head with stock LS bottom end. Shooting for 400whp

Not sure..It will probably never reach a dyno...Id guestimate at 300-330 whp at about 17-18 psi..

It helps you know and understand what your doing. I dont think a noOb could get away with the same.
nOob= What's that ratteling sound? humm, maybe if I turn the boost up it will go away.

It is always entertaining to hear what you have been up too.
Sounds like a fun little setup. I can't think of anyone reason why it shouldn't work.
It's amazing how easy it is to have a solid running turbo honda nowadays. The formula is there, but it is cool to still see that someone is doing something different. and with positive results.

I have a friend that had an LS VTEC with pistons and rods, Inline Pro 3mm head gasket to lower compression to 7:8:1, afc, inline pump, wb255, RC550s, ss autochrome manifold and intercooler, and a t4/67 turbo and put down 455whp at 24psi. Never got a clean pass at the track, but it did go 127mph at 22psi.

Yeah been beating the **** out of it all weekend long, so far so good...
And yeah, the formula is there so it should work..(at least thats what I was trying to convince myself when the boost gauge was pegged on 18 psi this weekend!!!lol

Man that's awesome. I too used to run the FMU/inline like crazy with an AFC but I didn't have that much luck and never pushed past 12 lbs.
Of course widebands in cars back then were about as common as FMU's in cars now so I never really had a "safe FMU tune".
Good luck with that and I would LOVE to see some 11.0's old school style.

Yeah I can remember paying close to a grand for my first w/b like 4 years ago!! It was an fjo with a freakin $300 ntk honda sensor!!! Well, dont know about 11.0s, but hopefully something half way respectable...
