ummm, do you know what double clutching is??? do you know what NAWSSSS is? Maybe I'm just not sensing your sarcasm. Double clutching is just that, its pushing the clutch in twice for gear changes. When you're in gear, you push the clutch in and pull the car out of gear and into neutral, let the clutch out, now push the clutch in and put the car in the desired gear, and let the clutch back out, its basically to save your tranny. Its not really a technique used now days because of syncros. Before syncros were around, people would double clutch to have less wear on their gears. The only reason you should double clutch now is if you already have bad syncros and are trying to keep your tranny to last even longer.

Turnfast link in sig..

Taken from the article:
http://www.turnfast.com/tech_driving..._heeltoe.lasso

"One other note about the above description. We have assumed the use of a street car, and a street transmission with synchros. If you're using a true race transmission without synchros, then you need to modify the above shifting with a double-clutch procedure. To do this, the clutch is pressed in, the shifter moved to neutral, and the clutch released. Then the accelerator is blipped, while the shifter is in neutral (again with the heel, while the ball of the foot continues to brake), the clutch pressed back in, the shifter placed in the lower gear, and the clutch released. This is required for maximum longevity of the transmission. If you expect to get in a race car some day that is likely to have such a transmission, it's a good idea to practice this shfting technique with your street car as well, even though it technically is not necessary."

Double clutching is mostly used to avoid grinding your syncros at hi rpm.
No good for drag racing because you loose precious time but, good for inspired driving.

i hate when people don't know what double clutching is and come up with their own explanation.........one of my buddies tells me its only useing the clutch once on a shift from say 2-3-4 or 3-4-5........no matter what i tell him he thinks he is right......what a retard

There are somw funny defintions I have heard so far.

Double clutching: When slamming the clutch in and releasing it as fast as possible while keeping the car in gear only 1to2 RPM's before powerband causing the car to hit a little above powerband forcing the car into a JOLT ahead of there opponent.

I used this method many times when racing the V8's. It helped a few times especially when sitting in first at like 10MPH against a GT. The car would jump and grab quick into powerband at 10MPH. Before I knew it I was shifting to 2nd landing @ 6300 RPMS. Yeah I miss those days ............. Kickin *** in the GSR.........

Hey Chris... You posted a link to an article on heel toe-ing not double clutching.

Real race cars only use the clutch to get going, after that it's either not required because of dog type sychros or controlled by the electro-hydraulic system...

Ah, pardon me... There is a paragraph on double clutching... My mistake. (Paragraph 2 still stands though!) And I stand by the fact that double clutching is pointless in a modern street car as well.

No, you didn't even read what he posted. Double clutching involves placing the shifter in neutual letting the clutch out and then into a smaller number gear (4-3, 3-2). Heal-toeing is shifting from lets say, 3-2 by controling all three pedals with two feet. You don't place the shifter into neutual let the clutch out, and then into second gear. You guys make this concept so much harder than it really is.

Heal n Toe and Double clutching are two different things, but you can combine them!!!! I use double clutching at 3-2 and 2-1 downshifts if I'm not racing. And sometimes at 5-3 downshifts on the highway....

agreed - I always like to double-clutch on the 5-3 downshift. Keeps you from being thrown forward annoyingly on the downshift, plus saves the tran. Feels awesome when you match the revs perfectly - you just launch forward

It's not completely pointless, it does save some wear on the transmission.

When I raced the space shuttle last month I double clutched as I shifted from 7th gear to 9th (no time for 8th)! I beat that silly little shuttle by moon lengths!

Are you sure you are talking about Double clutching? It sounds like rev-matching AFTER downshift, what you did.....
