Help!? Sunroof just kind of blew out
As I was heading down the interstate doing about 85, suddenly I just hear a whoosing noise above my head. I slide back the sunroof panel, and the glass was gone. There doesn't appear to be any damage to the frame or anything else ... it just popped out I guess.
Is this normal? Sure, it's a 10 year old car, but that's just not the sort of thing you'd expect to fail. The adhesive looks like it may have broken down over time. It was very gooey (sorry, can't think of a better word). It was the consistency of roofing tar if you've ever dealt with that stuff. It wasn't solid at all.
So questions
1. Where can I get glass cheap?
2. What type of adhesive is used on these?
thanks!

Do you have a picture of the damage? I would try a salvage yard. This site may be useful:

This sort of happened to me a few months ago. Except something hit my glass and it completely spidered (stayed on though). A honda dealership about 40 miles away found a used one for me and they installed it for like $250

look around the forum there should be people who crashed their tegs that you can buy off of. There must be a bolt that is broken or loose cause things don't just fly off..you should get it inspected before you put on the next one.

It hit the pavement and kind of "splashed".

Best I can tell, there's no fasteners that hold the glass to the frame. It's just adhesive.

i have a 98 2 door dark tint (not early version yellow) sunroof.
i bought it thinking 4dr's were the same. you can have it for $15 plus shipping.
it took all of 5 minutes to remove it, just 4 allen screws hold it in.
shipping will be from 37658, a heavy piece of glass, and some hella carefull packaging!

That would be awesome. I'm assuming you're referring to the entire assembly and not just the glass (allen screws)?

right, the actual glass in its frame, with the brackets that have the holes for the alen screws, just like if you went to the junkyard.
all you would do is take the 4 allens out and what frame you have left from the glass separating, and put mine in, i'll take a picture and post it up.

Someone very well may have messed with it. That thought certainly occured to me. Maybe somebody needed the glass and started to pry it off but didn't finish the job? It was parked outside a hotel all day so who knows.

Oh ok, now I gotcha. I thought you were talking about the whole motor/track/glass assembly which would involve disassembling 80% of the interior, but what you have is actually better. I could install that in seconds. I just went out and verified the 6 allen screws.
So how would you like to do this?
