HUMM/GROWL when on gas pedal.
OK SO HATE ME IF YOU'VE SEEN THIS ALREADY.....but i searched hiGH and low for this topic in the "search" section and came up with nothing...so here's the issue...I've got a 03 s2k with 25K on it and the car is making a crazy HUMM when I'm only on the gas ever so slightly...i mean like just touchin the gas like you would at cruising speed...I'm a normal driver no burners no crazy strips no nothing just a nasty hummm/growl thats killin me....(no the diff lfuid is not low and no it isn't constant so I'm hoping that its not the beginning of the diff going. any ideas ?
I'm desperate (oh and of course the warranty just ran out about 3 weeks ago & the shitty foreman @ honda tells me its normal although other s drivers have driven it and they say not normal but their not sure of what it could be....

Where does the "hum" come from. At a certain speed, or in a certain gear? Goes away when you step on the gas more? Goes away when you let off the gas?
In short, exact details.

always humm when i'm just slightly on the gas...no certain gear and no I'm not in a high gear...*uckin killing me the noise....goes away when i step on the gas more and only when i'm on the gas....the humm sounds like its coming from the rear
welll....not exactly i mean the thing handles like a dream but i just don't want it to end up being something wrong down the line....so basically preventative maintenance

seriously though, check around your engine good and make sure nothing on the engine is touching anthing around it. it's a long shot, but I had a similar noise coming from the LS in my CRX... the guy that did the swap left the a/c bracket on, which vibrated against the front cross member. I'm not saying your problem is that, specifically, but like you said, when I would step on the gas it would go away due to the engine torquing away from the cross member, but cruising would make an annoying noise. Does it make more noise coasting down hills, or after downshifting while coasting to a stop?

Take a look at the rear end.
1) Check if diff mounts are cracked/broken.
2) Drain some diff fluid and check for flakes.
3) Take off wheels and check tightness of axle nut. Torque to 244 (?) or 144 lbft. I'm drinking, and this is all off the top of my head.
4) Check dust shields for contact with brake rotors.
5) Check for binds in parking lot cable. Check if rear pads drag.
6) Check wheel bearings.
When I can think of more, I'll come back.

you're the man dude...especially when drinking i'll try all that when i get some lift time @ work. Thank you for all your help...i'll get back to you if it's one of those (hope it is!)
when im driving i get this whistle sound but thats my differential it always goes PhZZZZZ a hummm? i kinda like the noise though its like my S is sayn thanks for drivin me PhZZzzzZZZZ! and when i press the gas a lil more it goes away. it sounds normal to me. But if you think its bad have it checked out but a high rated shop. Alot of us take this car fragile. but im sure its fine just check it out with a profesional and be on ur way. that noise sounds so familiar to wat im talkn about! Good luck!
Yea my 02 with 30k on it makes the same sound. I have an exhaust on it, and i can hear it over the exhaust. It only happens at a certain point on the pedal. I let off, it goes away, i push more, it goes away. From what i hear all S have this noise. Its a noisy car.

True as well. The little bolts like to corrode and break off. Just make sure it doesn't lead to vibrations.

it appears coming from the rear, but it's the clutch, mine has it too, nothing bad, just a licht resonating noise under slight throttle or throttle release, when he hears it just press the clutch pedal and he'll see it disappears
Hmmm.. the ones that I've heard sounds like its coming from under me. Kinda like.. half through the center tunnel, and half under the seat from outside. *shrugs*
no dice on the clutch being pressed i tried that and it still does it....i'm thinkin its the wheel bearing...but friday i have another apt. @ honda so now its their turn to figure it out

I doubt it's the clutch, differential or diff mounts, wheel bearings, or cv joints.
I think your problem maybe with the propeller shaft in terms of lubrication or lack of lubrication in the joints.
I've started getting the same noise from my year old tundra. Had the same noise on the s2000 using various differential setups and final drives. I can only isolate it to the propeller shaft since it only occurs when the engine see's 5% throttle while cruising at speeds over 40mph. Wheel bearings don't make this hum, neither do CV joints (solid axle on the Tundra), neither do clutches (my truck is an auto), and the differential mounts (again sold axle on the tundra). I can only limit the noise to the propeller shaft that might require lubrication, but I can't see how you would lubricate a s2000 propeller shaft, it appears to be sealed.
I'll inspect the propeller shaft on my Tundra, lubricate it, and see if the noise dissipates or disappears.

my 05 s2k makes that sound, so i checked it out while driving. it occured in 6th gear at 3000 rpm's when i was cruising no gas and the rpms slowly dropped to 3k it started there was like a 1-200 rpm range but to me it just sounds like the rear end is harmonizing, nothing to worry about unless ur car is made of antimatter. because that shouldnt resinate. but it could be something a little lube could fix.
if u jack the car try to shake the tire if it has some movement its the wheelbearing but it wouldnt sound like that. do u remember hitting any hard pottholes?
