Default expletive idiot soccer moms who can't drive!(pics/story)

A little background:
I live 20 minutes south of Atlanta, GA.
I just got my car back from the bodyshop last wednesday and spent $1600 out of pocket to replace the rear bumper filler and the left quarter panel that was fucked pretty bad. Some of you may remember Tom's (B18c5-eh2) post about his red STD that was totalled and the white DX he bought to replace it. I bought his STD from him and had the body damage repaired.

Anyways, last night I was taking my girlfriend home from my house at 10:00pm on Hwy. 74 (in GA). I was approximately 1/4 mile away from a traffic light, traveling in the left lane doing 60 mph (speed limit is 55). Ahead of me are two stopped cars in the right lane waiting for the light to turn green. The one in the rear was a brand new black Saab. Shortly after the light the woman in the Saab with three teenage girls in the car decided that the car she was behind wasn't going fast enough, so she pulled into the left lane in front of me. She was doing roughly 35-40 mph, whereas I'm still going 60. I put on my turn signal to change lanes into the right lane. As I'm changing lanes, the woman "brake checks" me, forcing me to either slam into the back of her or perform an emergency lane change.

As you all know, Civic STDs don't have power steering or ABS. I have to correct my manuver as i'm approaching the shoulder. I side swipe her with the front of my bumper in her front right wheel. and my left quarter panel hits her in the rear right door. I explain to the officer what happened, and I was charged with Following Too Closely.

After all was said and done, the woman's car had a broken axle and her door was fucked. I met the police officer at a bank at 12:00 am to further discuss the situation. After I spent 30 minutes talking to him, he advised me to go to court and go before a judge because he's only allowed to provide evidence, and he said without coming out and saying it that he'd more than likely take my side in court because of our discussion and the many hours I've spent behind the wheel both as a student and an instructor at a teen driving clinic owned and operated by my girlfriend (who was in the car with me) 's dad and Richard Petty Driving Experience at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

lol.

I learned to drive on an old motorcycle in the city so you learn to assume that the person is going to do the exact wrong thing. You know. Like they did. Try to think of the experience as a reason to drive safer. Any time I see cars going slower in another lane I get ready for people to cut over. I'm sure you did the same.

Anyway. Does $1600 sound like a lot of money to replace two panels? You can get junk yard panels and have the painted for much less in my experience.

This is exactly why I slow down when I come up on slower moving traffic.

but thanks to everyone for your concern and support. i'll let you all know how this plays out may 17th.

May 17th.....day b4 my Bday, yay! LOL

Man, I'' say that's some SHITTY luck.
But your not going to win **** at court, I suggest you cop out now and save time/effort.
My buddy was driving here in Columbus on 270, and a guy in front of him brake checked him. He made an "emergency lane change" right into the median. Flipped his car twice, COMPLETELY destroyed it, and fucked himself up.
Guess who's car was gone and got NOTHING for it?
Guess who the city billed for the damage to the median?
Yeah, out the hole a Benz and almost $1k, all because my boys a dumb *** and rides peoples ***'.

It sounds like you know how to drive pretty well, but if your going to spend $1600 on a fender and bumper, I'd be a little more careful.

yeah, it was some shitty luck, but honestly, after talking to the cop after the ticket was issued, i am fairly confident that i have a shot in court. at least one that's better than just sitting back and taking it in the *** from this bitch.

I mean, contrary to popular belief, there are still some decent people out there, who regardless of circumstances, do what's right.
On 2nd thought, if your this confident in the Piggy Pie, I'd:
Go plea innocent, and they'll probably reschedule so they can get the pig in there.
Pig comes in, has pre-trial talk with Prosecutor.
Prosecutor takes Pig's word for it, drops pursuit of charges, judges NEVER argue with the prosecutor.....
At that point your off the hook unless the bitch wants to take you to court herself, a very costly thing she'd be almost certain to loose.

yeah. i totally agree with your reply. that's why i'm going to go to court. the 17th will be the arraignment hearing, which i told the officer i'll be pleading not guilty to, and he said he'll show up to that one, and i'll also be scheduled an actual trial where he'll provide evidence.

I was thinking, and I doubt it'll get to a trial.
If your courts like mine:
Before you go in front of the Judge the prosecutor will talk with you and the pig. If the pig tells him whats up, he'll probably just dismiss it then and there.
Time is money to them, they wont waste time if they dont have to.

I once went to court for a speeding ticket I got when the officer didnt use a radar gun. After he pulled me over my car died and he gave me a jump. When he talked to the prosecutor he told him he DIDNT give me a jump. Pigs arent allowed to. Well, better believe he told the truth when I got him on the stand. I then told the judge if lied before his word is questionable. Sure enough I got off scot free.

Not relevant at all, but a funny story nonetheless.

people make mistakes, and by the sound of your story, you shouldn't be held accountable. if she doesn't admit in court that she was at fault, and she won't, you won't be able to get her insurance company to pay for the repairs.

by all means, don't give up though, see what you can do. if she is an upstanding person who knows she was in the wrong, and admits it, you might get your car fixed.

I dont think the goal here is to get his car paid for, that aint happening.
I think it's to avoid paying for her car, paying fines, and getting points, and raised insurance.
His car's barely damaged, I wouldnt be upset at all. It's not the least amount of damage, but it's better then bending the fram or pushing in a cornner or something..
