Stock oil cooler question? Compatibility h22 & d16
Hi guys I am missing a h22 stock oil cooler from my h22 but have one from a d16. I know I can make it work with new brackets and some adapters but just wanted to see if anyone else had done this? and encounted any problems in doing so
I shall be running an aftermarket oil cooler on the h22 also but want the stock one to serve its purpose as the aftermarket cooler is on a thermostat (80deg C)
Thanks

I didn't know either of these engines had OEM oil coolers, maybe the H22 as I'm a SOHC guy and don't know for sure, but I know the D16 has no oil cooler, or did older versions have one on the back of the block using engine coolant?
I have a euro d16a9 (ZC) which has a stock oil cooler. The h22a JDM spec which I have also has one also. Its a black spongy item just above the oil filter
What I am wondering is are they interchangable although the pipes are smaller/bigger on some models. Will the engine run poor if I use a d16 oil cooler on a h22? I know really I should do it the other way round cuz I guess I can never cool it TOO much

you can cool it too much but I think that only applies to air/oil coolers not coolant based coolers. Coolant won't be able to cool too much since it's always warm.
Oil has a maximum and minimum operating temp.

Can anyone tell me whether the black spongy thing on the back of a h22 or d16 block is an oil cooler or not? It has an inlet and outlet from inbetween the filter and the block so I guessed it was oil. It could be another cooler of some sort thou.
Please confirm if you know the part im meaning.

Do you happen to know if they differ from engine to engine and do you think I could get away with running a d16 part on my h22?
Ive sent off for a correct h22 one but incase it doesnt arrive or I have this problem in future it would be nice to know. Looking at the d16 version the inlet and outlet pipes are smaller. Im guessing theres some kind of check valve inside?
Thanks

Does anyone have the part number for the h22 oil separator box? I asked honda in the UK and they said they couldnt see it on the system. The engine I have is a h22a from japan and I only have the engine not a VIN number to search parts with.
Heres a pic of it on my D16

Im slowly coming to the conclusion that maybe they were only used on JDM h22a's? But it would seem odd to do that. I now have managed to find a JDM Prelude h22a VIN number so I shall try this tomorrow.
If anyone has any info in the meantime please chime in. This is for a boosted h22 CRX, possibly a first in the UK.

I think i'll have to get a better shot of the part. There are 2 boxes to the rear of the engine block. One as you say is the PCV setup but there is another that has a link into the coolant pipe and the part inbetween the oil filter and the block.
I'd like to run the part to begin with even if it means removing it later down the line as too much is at stake if it goes wrong.
If anyone can provide me with a correct part number i'll paypal them $5 for their time and patience. Please let me know.
The part to recap is shown in the picture of the d16 block, I need this part but a h22 version.

I spoke to honda about part no. 11261-P5P-000 and they said it was a seal for the oil seperator box but still couldn't tell me the part number of the actual oil seperator box.
The above part number was a rubber seal worth £5.33 GPB. Thanks for trying thou.
