Default ECU checking help :-\

I have some Q's about this thread here..
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1171263

A. What do the P's mean, after the code #'s, there's like more #'s starting with P0, how do you get a "P" from the CEL? That part kinda lost me..

B. When I was driving to practice today, my CEL Turned on, I turned the ignition off, switched it back off it went away, this is the second time it jsut turned on like that when I was driving, but shut off as soon as the ignition system was powered down.. How am I supposed to check what code it's throwing? As soon as I turn it off, whatever caused it to come on isn't happening... The light's off 99% of the time, but twice (second time being today) it just turned on, reset the ignition (Just turned key back, so the car shut off, then turned it back on, starts up because ur technichally jump starting the clutch...(everybody usually knows this) and the CEL wasn't on

Is there a memory or am I **** outta luck until it stays on steady from starting up to shutting off?

I stand corrected...

To check the code, just go to autozone, they will read it for free, and they will give you the code and meaning of it.

Naw, even when I go to autozone and they hook up teh ODB sensor, they'll shut it off, plug it in, then turn the key to the on position even though the car is off, adn then they check it, so it'st he same thing

Not to mention the nearest autozone is 45 min away and it comes on randomly

Any other suggestions?

run your car until the code shows then leave your car on and do the check.. its more than likely your o2 sensor

P = powertrain
anatomy of a CEL/DTC --> http://www.obdii.com/dtcanatomy.html

your ECU maintains the code in memory until you remove the power to the ECU or you run though enough ignition cycles to clear it.
even if the light isn't on, the code is still stored in the ECU.

are you talking about your 95? you don't have an OBD2 system, you're OBD1. No need to worry about the P codes.
Jumper the service connector and count the blinks.

you're right, it's odb1

if it's stored in memory, it came on when I went to track practice today, I shut the car off...started it to drive home from practice.. Started it an hour ago to go out for dinner w/ my gf, shut it off, then started it back up and came home...

So that's 3 starts after it came on, is that enough to have wiped out the memory?

'cause I don't know when it'll come on again, yesterday I drove it for a total of 2h30m (round trip) and it didn't come on, so it's like, completely random

I'll try to jump it tomorrow, thx for help

BTW..:

Why do you say that? Just common for hondas?

I just jumped it, from what I could tell, it's a 43, msg repeats, definately looks like a 43...

I checked that against the thing and it says:
"43 Fuel supply system"

the hell does that mean? my pump's going bad? I'm going to go check it again in a few just to make sure, but yeah, I definately see a 43 in there...

EDIT:
I just hope I"m jumping the right plug

There's 2 plugs there that aren't plugged into anything, a 3 prong one, and a 2 prong one, I did it to the 2 prong one and got the CEL to flash...although the colors aren't the same as in the how to ECU thread sticky :-\ - I think I got the right one tho

So I'm thinking it's probably either
- clogged fuel filter
- bad fuel pump

But if it was a bad fuel pump, wouldn't it buck or run shitty or something?

I dunno....yesterday when I went to start it after coming home from practice (the CEL came on on the way there) it took a really long time to start....I had to take the key out and put it back in and do it again, still took like 20 cranks, and started up weak (if that's any help to u guys whether it's the filter or the pump, that makes me lean towards the pump, but I'm not sure if it primed or not...) I believe i'd be feeling less if the fuel pump was bad, no?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Going down the list of things that would cause CEL 43
intermittent connection at the shock towers
O2 is going bad but not completely bad yet
clogged fuel filter
clogged injectors
main relay going bad
fuel pump going bad

IMO I'd check out the main relay first since the repair for it is free and it's a known problem with older hondas. That and the connections at the shock tower.
After that the fuel filter and O2 sensor.
then the injectors and fuel pump.

bad fuel pump would cause it to loose power in the higher RPMs, when the engine needs more fuel.

you have the right plug if the CEL flashed the code.

OBD1 does not clear codes via ignition cycles, only OBD2 does that. And it's 60+ cycles.
