I would like to give a big
to:

These are the only people I found that dealt with Cusco LSD's. These guys are very knowledgeable and customer service is excellent. They were very accomodating when it came to getting the rebuild kit as fast as possible. I reccomend these guys to anyone that needs something from Cusco!!
I hope I'm not violating any rules here by giving them some praise.

So last night my friend and I tackled taking the trans out of the car, cracking open the trans and disassembling the differential. We've done trans' before but this was the first diff. All in all it went quite well, the diff was alot easier to take apart then I thought it would be.
I spoke with Cusco this morning they said the rebuild kit is about 220 bucks it will take 60-90 days to get here from Japan
or I can spend another 100 bucks and get it shipped within 8-10 business days which is what I'll end up doing.
After inspection of the synchros and bearings, they all seemed in good shape I think I might get by only replacing the clutch discs.
Now for the pics.
The Car

The trans and working station

The Diff

Diff Internals

The Problem

Good Times!!

Old Faithful!! Electric Impact

Dirty spoom "breaks"

The Bat Cave

Good Info:

So thats it, in about 8-10 business days I will have an update and the complete rebuild and driving impression. I love this diff!! I would like a ride in someone with and ATS in the future, I've heard there is nothing to complain about with them!
Thanks for looking, let the questions and comments roll!!

You need some real beer to work on cars...
All that stuff will do is interupt and make you have to ****....
How did you end up determining it was a cusco LSD? I know you questioned it for a while.

i dont understand differentials. where do those clutch disk things go and what do they do/how do they work? what made you decide to rebuild it? what were the symptoms that told you it needed to be rebuilt?

I second this. Budwieser doesn't have a single product I can drink :barf:
Nice work though. Looks like fun.

8 of the discs slide into the diff casing then you put that spaceship looking thing in there and then 8 more discs. Only one set of the discs seemed to be damaged decently.
Those discs allow the diff to give when cornering. Its like a welded diff but no binding in the corners. With both wheels off the ground, if you spin one the other will go the same way. If you and I push opposite ways we will only fight ourselves.

I was really suprised how easy it was. I spoke with ATS, his are only 250 bucks and it only takes about 5 business days.

Lol, there's 2 of them in that garage. One is an 88 and the other is somewhat stock. Also two 4-wheelers, both 400, one with a 440 kit.

Does anyone have dealing with cusco? I spoke with NAPSUSA, they have to send out pics to Japan and see if they have the rebuild parts. Apparently next week is a holiday in Japan. I'd like to get them ordered and shipped before that holiday!!!

Just buy the sealed bearings instead of the tapered, the shims are the same - you will probably have to re-clearance the diff but its much easier. Just tap the outer races out of the case, and install with the sealed bearings.
