Can I use Stock Lugnuts on Aftermarket Wheels?
I just read that it's not advisable to use aftermarket lugnuts on stock wheels. So i'm wondering if the opposite holds true. I'm waiting on a set of Kyokugen lugs to arrive this week. The lugnuts that came with my Kosei K1's did not have a wheel lock so I decided to use the stock lugs. Are my wheels going to fall off???
The basic rule is:
1. Thread pitch needs to be correct. (xxx x 1.25mm or xxx. 1.50mm)
2. The seating surface has to be the same (as the wheel). (eg. acorn, tapered, etc.)
I've had wheels that would accept stock Honda lugs (acorn type)... some other wheels I've had to get tapered lugs. Just don't expect your OE lugs or aftermarket lugs to accomodate all types of wheel manufacturers.

Thanks Cosworth but I have no idea as to what you're referring to when talking about acorn/tapered and seating and...well, everything you posted. lol Care to explain more what you mean? Thanks
Basically, NO
Oem wheels have an acorn seat requiring an acorn (OEM) lug. Most aftermarket wheels require tapered lugs. Thus, they are not interchangeable.

Great diagram. Looks like yoshi's not the only artist around here...
The diagram shows the difference between the "seating surface" of the lug nuts, the surface that comes in contact with the wheel as you screw them on. If you look at the wheels when they're off the car, you'll see that the surface of the wheel where the lugs come into contact will match one type of lug nut - either it will be a concave curve to match the acorn-shaped nuts, or it will be perfectly conical to match the conical nuts.

Ok, so it's a given I need to get my stock lugs off my car but I won't be able to do it until tomorrow night. What are the consequences of using the wrong lugnuts? Will I ruin the wheel, mounting bolts, the car??? Someone school me
