Default head swap problem SOHC non-vtec

I tried swapping my D15b7 Non-vtec head on to my D16y7 block. Everything was going just peachy until I started to put the Timing belt back on. It seemed as if it's too short/small....

Now I know you're probably going to ask why did I swap heads... The D15b7 head is fully port and polished and milled... So my question is what could be going wrong? Do I need a dif. Timing belt? Is the head taller then the other?

TIA

shane

prolly d16a6 timing belt is what you are looking for. Don't know too sure, but there aren't too many people going from vtec to non-vtec.

I just don't understand it all?!?!?!? Is the D15b7 head taller then the D16y7 head? They both share the same head gasket and everything..

if the belt you got right now is too short i would probably assume that hte new head is taller, seems logical i guess. Anyway i owuld compare to teh 91 crx si timing belt and see if that one is long enough to fit.

b7/a6 belts are longer than z6/y8 belts.

Like I said. Its been a while since ive counted.

no, the valves are the same size.. Do you think 2 teeth would make that much of a differance... By the way do you know how many teeth are on the y7?

z6 y8 y7 belts are all the same.
I assumed u knew that.

Hell I was close as far as the tooth count.

Just fyi. A half tooth is equal to about 4.75 degrees. Add it up.

Not doubting you or anything but where do you get that? I would like to know just for my own info... This is all I was gonna do... The belt was to short so I was going to just get a belt that will fit like it was supposed to... I'm going to make sure the head is TDC and the block is TDC before I mount the belt... How does that sound? thanks

Everything seems to be alright... Knock on wood... Now does anyone know where to find a decent NON vtec cam?

Delta, Crane, comp, crower, exospeed.
Plenty of choices for the a6/b7 head.

The cam degree info is just some stuff from a GREAT old sohc forum.

Youll find more for the a6/b7 head than any other sohc D head.

Good luck with your project dude.

you need the timing belt for the head that you are using, you might also need an aftermarket cam gear to get the timing perfect. GL hope this helped.
