Default Several RHD Conversion Questions (searched)

Well its finally time to cut into my $100 88 HF CRX to make it RHD. a while back i got a clip with no motor or body pannels for dirt cheap. had everthing i need for RHD drive though I have been doing my research and have a good plan of attack. in case your wondering about skill level i have been building and wrenching on cars since i was old enough to pass a socket to my dad the project got held up while i was finishing up my 93 teg and its finally time. Anyway i guess i will jump right in with the questions (Wu-tang i hope your still on the boards here is my list of ???'s

1. does anyone have any pics of the firewall section cut out??? I know i have to drill out the spot welds but i want a better idea of where i have to cut or whats the easiest. saw one before on another site but can;t find it
2. what should i do about the rear mount if i plan to stay d-series for now?? I was thinking of drilling new holes if i have to and cutting out a small triangle on bottom so i can weld nuts to the inside for the bolts. other plan was to weld it on and grind off when i go b-series
3. how much and where should i brace the car when i remove firewall??? have some idea's but want to check out what others have done
4. As a nice bonus i got a am/fm aftermarket CD player has pioneer on amp but has "Carrozzeria" on it all over. Its a multi changer control deck with amp. has a contol box that plugs into it and a seperate amp, both use the mini DIN connectors, I was wondering if anyone has seen this before, dunno if its JDM or just one that was stuck in it here for some reason?
5. is it best to just use my USDM dash harness and rewire?? i did not get the JDM climate control and the multi function swith for turn signals is broken. I was thinking of just using US one and all US harness with US climate control but are the controls for the flap valves still controlled with cables???? i have not been able to look to make sure and i have the clip stored right now (gonna get it out Thursday). I know how much work it is to redo the US one but i think it would probly work out better. May just incorperate a wire tuck at same time
6.If it had the auto air con climate control will i be able to convert to US with the cables some way?? and how hard would it be to just wire up the JDM one if i can find one???

Well thats it for the questions . I have all the parts together for this except a few minor things i need to find, The rex is already stripped out except for pulling dash and componest with it. have to still get all the stuff off firewall and cracked windshield out. have all my measurements logged and taken from the clip and the rex and all thats left is to get more pics. I will post up the pics of progress so far tomorrow. Just thought i would share in my fun new project. Thank u very much in advance for any answers i get to the ???'s. I know its just a looks thing with RHD but if u got the rhd stuff for $200 bux and the rex for $100 wouldn't u do it to??? sorry for the long post but i just need a few pics and some awesome HT advice. thanks again

hey sorry i can't answer many questions for ya, but just wanted to say cool project. i have been contemplating doing this for a while on my rex, except im a little more minimalist. no dash, no climate control, no nada. fully race prep heh. i would just be doing it for fun, i mean if you can do it all yourself its really one of the cheapest mods you can do for the buck.

hey quick question, i thought that the rear motor mount bolted to the rear crossmember not to the firewall at all. i could be mistaken though.

oh and search in the arcives for RHD i remember not too long ago there was a similar project with pics.

thanks for the reply and input. The rear mount does go on crossmember but i have to use the JDM one wich is setup for b-series and will have to be moved over a little for d-series. my main concern lies with the climate control. I want to use my usdm wiring and control with the jdm ducts and boxes. I would rather go full race and not have any of it but this car is more of just a weekend cruising car and i would like to keep AC, also using power steering since the JDM rack is power. I have searched and searched more been wanting to do this for soooo long and its finally happening. thanks again

this is starting to make me mad. there was a thread with exactly the info AND pics somewhere. i just can't find it though.

the thread im thinking of the guy got screwed by a shop who ended up keeping some of his parts and ripping him off. last i heard he was still trying to get parts back from the shop so he could do the swap.

ill try again to find it.

EF8-kid i owe u big time, thanks so much for a good write-up and pics. I knew i had seen a nice thread about it when i first got the clip but could not find it. ther are more threads about RHD swaps now but most of them are useless bashing, just like tek-civic said it was pissing me off too i could not find the thread (thanks anyway bro). After doing a bunch of research it looks like i am gonna have to find a auto air-con JDM climate control and use the jdm dash harness, do they have JDM climate control with no AC?? i was hoping to use my USDM stuff and extend wiring. I also have a broke turn signal lever, is there any way to use my USDM multifunction assembly and re-pin??? I am so glad that there has been such great input amd no bashing about how RHD is so stupid and blah blah blah. Hey EF8-kid where u at in AL??? i am down by dothan and would like to check out your ride sometime if thats cool or at a mettup. I have been lazy on getting pics up of the clip but i will try when i get home from work. Oh and has anyone tried the dry ice method fro removing the seam sealer like we use on the sound deadner tar stuff?? I have been waiting to do this project since i got into imports during high school, I am 23 now about to be 24 in 13 days thanks again to all who have replied and done there own RHD swaps before me. and if any of u JDM guys have a Climate control or Turn signal multi function switch, hit me up I know this is not classifieds but related to my thread, lol

nice i was hoping the guy would chime in! i just couldn't find it again haha. anyways get some pics up when you get some time, lets follow this buildup so others can learn.

im calling shops up in my area to try and source a bare front clip. hehe i don't even need a dash, although turn signals would be nice, since it does see the street. basically all i need is firewall and components, steering, and crossmember from what i see. this is gonna rock.

alright i am going to buy yet some more batteries for my digi cam. its eats AA batteries worse than a old school ESP discman, lol anyway pics will be up today of progress. i would really kie to find out if there is any way i can use my USDM climate contol and the turn signal multi function switch. Could i just use my USDM steering coloum??? looks like it would work. another stupid??? is i have a bent hood hinge on my 91 hatch and the clip still has them, is there any difference between the JDM crx and USDM hatch hood hinges??? i know the rex and hatch parts interchange but i would like some confirmation. anyway i am removing most of the dash parts in the rex today and the rest of interior for final rust inspection. got all my measurements fro both the clip and car. need to pull out crappy HF engine too. it ran just not well casue of a bad dizzy. car sat out in the rain with no hood on it for 6 months. Anyway i figure i would bump this up so i can get a few of the other answers i need as well. thanks

haha thanks for the compliments. Ok the seam sealer, get a 4.5 inch wire wheel. Its such a dirty job, it goes EVERYWHERE, but grind allllll the sealer and seams n all first so u dont have to keep swapping stuff out. Its really a tough project, it takes time. Its fun tho and will be great when its done.

My wiper thing was broken too, USDM one works..plus u wont hit ur blinker and the windshield wipers will come on. (RHD the blinker...and wiper stalks are on opposite sides.)

Climate control....buy another one. Gotta keep the Jap flow goin.

yeah the seam sealer and spot welds are gonna suck, i got a spare SI wiring harness so i can make up a new engine wiring harness to mate up to the RHD one in the engine bay, i plan to just use a d16a6 i have laying around for now just to have something in it to drive. i was hoping the US blinker control eould work for the same reason u described with them being switched on the JDM one. All i have to find is a jdm climate control now. thanks again
