Question on the Rear Bar..rear..rear bar..
I'm not talking about the Rear Tower Bar, but there is a bar at the last portion of the trunk. I'm not sure about it's functionality, does it do anything useful?

Two words - Structural Rigidity
That's another reason they call it a Type R as in Rigid

They are for securing a cargo net
I figured as much. I have those but have no need for a cargo net.

.....supposedly only the 4dr gets a a cargo net securing bracket on the interior panels. Which nets the question (no pun intended): why do we have those brackets? I'd love a cargo net!

They move around a lot.
I thought those tabs are for a child seat. I remember hearing of a law within the recent years that all cars have to have someway of securing a child seat. I think all hatchback Teg's have the tabs.
I've got em in my 2 door GSR... I was gonna take them out to save a few grams of weight, but couldn't find a nice plug to fill the hole. I haven't looked real hard for a plug though...

Actually I think they are for securing a child seat. All 2k and newer cars have them. SI's have them on the rear deck, since we don't have rear decks, they mount way back there.

Thanks for the info guys, reason i'm asking, this guy with a GSR is going to trade me a new VIS Carbon Fiber Hood for my stock front lip [I have a different one on now, so it's just sitting in my garage collecting dust] and this rear brace bar. To me it seems like a steal, so...just wondering if it was worth taking off.
Did someone say BENEN?
Tony, does that bar mount in the same place or do you have to drill holes or cut the plastic panels?

1) To give enough strength to withstand a rear-end collision just like the rear bumper support. It is made for you to take off the bumper support for weight savings and still be 100% safe
2) To reinforce the back part of the trunk. The bar itself is carved/machined out of one solid block ot metal, so it is very strong...I find is much stronger than any bars that are welded together.
