Default Your opinion is actually desired! Plugs for my NA build setup

I just helped a few noobs so I feel I've met my quota and can ask for yet more advice.

Just throw me your opines about spark plugs for my setup below. From my searches it seems like NGK copper are the way to go, cheap, and work well. However, I'm unclear about the entire "cold stepping" side of plugs, as in "this plug is 2 steps colder"?

My build is pretty mild I guess, and not everything is installed yet (but I have it all) but I'm running in SoCal which can get pretty hot, soooo.............sound off.

Engine: 91 Integra LS B18A, 151,000 miles

Crower 404's (Stage 3) with Crane springs/retainers
JG 62mm bored Throttle Body
Blox Intake Manifold
DC Sports 4-2-1 Header
2 1/4" custom catback
Magnaflow Sport Series muffler
CAI
MSD Cap, Blaster 3 Coil, and plug wires
Clutchmaster 7.5# flywheel
AEM lightened pulley set
AEM Adjustable Cam Gears
AEM FPR/Fuel Gauge
Apexi VAFC

I'm assuming that after a dyno appointment I'll be at around 160whp

NGK's are rated from lower (hot) to higher (cold). They go 5,6,7,8,9,10, etc. A 7 is 2 steps colder than a 5.

so, with my setup, do I need to go colder? Would it help? How does this affect the performance of the plug. I assume stock is fine, just curious, thanks.

went with 6E-11, one step colder, which, according to my manual, is for "hot climates or continous high speed driving", both conditions I meet daily edit - I installed today and gapped to approx .048. OEM is .044. Had no problems with car so far so I feel comfortable with the increased gap.

NGK 6 heat range is good. Perfect for that setup. The general rule is you wanna run the hottest plug you can get away with.

Default FIRE

UNBELIEVABLE............................

I put in my new plugs today, hand thread, lightly tightened, a little anti-seize on the threads, put the wires back on, tried to start the car and it was really cranking funny. I go to check the plug wires and the dizzy is smoking! It doesn't have power any more (car is off) but I quickly removed the neg bat cable anyways. Keeps smoking, smoke gets worse, really black acrid smoke, starts filling up garage, I have to stand outside.

Then, my worst nightmare comes true, flames, in my engine, melting plastic, dripping, more flames, fuel line, fire everywhere, rafters of garage start to catch, fire engines wailing in the distance, water to house is off because gardener is doing sprinkler system, they won't make it, entire garage is going up, luckily its detached from the house. I watch from a safe distance, flames 30-40ft in the air, my car, my tools, photos, camping equipment, and all the misc. one stores in a garage, gone.

I've heard about 90-93 Integra's dizzy going bad, but this was rediculous. I guess some wires melted, smoke, caught fire, melted dizzy cap, and the rest is history.

All I wanted to do was change my plugs

A fire extinguisher would have changed the outcome of your day. Sorry for your loss.

last night someone called me at like 12:20 impersonating the local police saying a car I just sold this week was involved in a robbery, need to come down to station with proof of sale, forms, etc. I wasn't buying it, but played along, griped until they agreed I could come in tomorrow, then told me the precinct was on "April Fools Way" *click*. They did a pretty good job, sounded legit, and I have no idea who it was. props for April fools day.</TD></TR></TABLE>

from the "FIRE" thread - got me, didn't take long, fun while it lasted - and this part from 93_teg_CT is priceless - "Weird, my car looks like it's going to catch on fire... Yep, it's starting, yep, flames gettin bigger..." "This might be bad, I better go stand outside and watch... Yep, there goes the garage." - ROFL

so yeah, anyhow, April Fools, whatever, this spark plug thread was dead anyhow, I was bored - you gotta expect this Shamoo on a day like today. Someone got me last night at 12:20am so I figured I'd might as well have my hand in a little mischief as well.
