jdm, usdm, type-s: how and what to build fun!!!!
alright before everyone tells me to go search, it cant be
i have a 96 and i have been posting quite a bit but still indesisive.
i have the option of a jdm h22a, a usdm h22a1, or a jdm type-s h22a
my goals are to:
make this a daily driver,
get the swap legal, and keep it legal,
and get the most horespower.
now when i say the most horsepower, the type s engine comes with an extra 20 compared to the jdm and the jdm has 10 more than the usdm, but the pricing leads me to believe that i can get a better net of horsepower through spending the money i saved on the engine rather than trin to get it legal to pass smog and get bar'd
the jdm engine costs 1500 more than the jdm 3600
the jdm costs 600 more than the usdm 2800
and the usdm costs 2100 2100
all of these are complete swaps.
can i get some opinions and if this was ur choice, what would u do with the enigne, setting a limit of $5000 this car must also be able to pass smog.
enthusiest let me hear it
thanks to all of you that participate

keep it as simple as you can, the type S motor is overrated imho, there's a tad different but the gain vs. price isn't worth the penny imho
so you are down to two choices
i would go for JDM h22, because some come with LSD 5 speed and probably lower mileage(but again, no way to be sure about the mileage)
the price difference between the LSD'ed or normal tranny is around 500 bucks, it's good for what it is but don't expect to much from it.
i notice you are in california too, well. good luck with getting it bar'ed

id suggest a USDM H22A1, then find an LSD JDM tranny....from what ive seen, the JDM motors with LSD's are usually ALOT more than the JDM non-lsds....
1950 plus 300 to upgraded to lsd plus shipping http://www.hmotorsonline.com/s...30015
-get a good header (rmf's the best bang for the buck) - 800ish
-euro r intake manifold (can order from hmotors with the engine to save on shipping) - 225
-sk2 stage1 or type s cams - 200-650 depending on if you can find a good deal on some used one
-tuning - 100-600ish
all in all, it will be under 5k and you'll be MUCH better off than a stock type s swap! with i/h/e, cams, intake manifold and tuning, i'm sure you could easily see 215whp.

If you want DD and pass emissions then USDM with the USDM ECU will be your best bet. If you want best of both worlds you can get a JDM motor with slightly higher compression but i dunno bout the emissions part prob have to get a better tune or revert to a USDM since i have heard the JDM P13 runs a lil rich. As for tranny wise most people opt for the JDM LSD tranny (m2b4) if they can spend the extra money. Id say when you get the motor do some maintenance on it (timing, plugs wires, seals, the basic stuff) with the motor out. Saves you trouble in the future and after that spend your money on whatever performance upgrades you want.
ive been gettin alot of people to go usdm, its cheaper and easier to pass smog, ontop of that all the parts will be easier to obtain and i can really have fun with th emotor... wat do u guys think?

You can run the USDM motor. Most people do it because its cheaper and easier to pass smog since its already tuned that way stock. You can still have fun with it. There is still an abundant market of parts available for the USDM.
