I was at the grocery store last night and read some SCC again - lotus (R motor) vs. cobra R...
.....Did anyone notice the dyno #'s seemed a *little* high for the b18c5? It said he had Ti header and exhaust, but c'mon 192whp and 130+ wtq?
Domestic heads: were the dyno #'s for the cobra R accurate?

the numbers for the Cobra R looked decent if i remember. They dont do the car justice... but they seemed on none the less. Id bank on the Lotus having more work done to it rather than just a raised HP rating. Id say intake, ti header and exhaust plus some dyno tuning of the cams and such. Where they just took the Cobra and put it on no tuning what so ever. Idiots they are.
My Roommates DYno on his R looks pretty much exactly the same as the one in the article. I think it was a interesting article to read but kind of a waste, cmon I thought it was kind of obvious that the Lotus would outperform the Cobra, but Dayam Ti exhaust!!!

What? Either they were posting up engine dyno numbers or the dyno was reading high... actual instead of corrected #'s maybe? Most get about 160whp out of stock itr's... I'm sure header and exhaust would give some decent gains - maybe 180's, but not without *some* tuning. Damn stock ecu won't compensate that much.....

The little lotus that could only weighed 1700 pounds though.
Thats like a gutted crx. Wuuptie dooo!!! Id rather have the smaller car though.
The Bustang would be my last resort.

come-on out of all the Tech Guys there. maybe they just made the drivetrain perfrom better. there are other ways of getting better DTNO HP numbers than just power adder's. parisitic loss is a bitch. im not saying that maybe there numbers are a bit optimistic. but who know
From what I recall from a previous article, the drivetrain is the stock Type-R one, LSD and all.
With I/H/E, no power steering, and ECU tuning, 192 whp is just about possible I would guess.
The 1/4 mile time of 12.6 would suggest that 192 whp is fairly accurate. I would expect 13.3 or so with the stock B18C5's 163 whp based on the 929 lb difference in weight between the Type-R and the Elise.

The Cobra R lost in every category, even the American beloved 1/4 mile drag race, despite the extra almost 200hp... sigh...!
But I've seen stock Cobra R pulled faster 1/4 mile than 13s as shown on the magazine. I wouldn't blame it on the test drivers, but I would blame it on the poor quality control of Ford products.

That said, there is no reason excuse for the Mustang to weigh 3600 lbs.
FYI, that engine swap wasnt done cuz its better than the actual engine... it was done so the car could pass US regulations...
theres a cosworth over here in NJ also plus just thought i would let everyone know that one of my close friends made it into that magazine also he is that red street drivin civic
well... my buddy has a Mustang, and he dyno 490 at wheel,well... so wat? that mean's nothing to me... cuz he ran 13.4 =P. Well as i know, most of dyno chat on magzines are not exactly, and they did "ALOT" tunning b4 they put it up. I remember like 2 years ago i just started with Honda engine, and i read those dyno chat, it says like 20 whp with blah blah header, or 20 whp with blah blah chip, and a sales man came up told me " hey kid, this is real world" lol . laterz

i think if lotus put the motor in the car, that they played with it a little before selling them. Elise is known for being a tuner company, they don't make ordinary cars they sport cars. but i don't know if i'm trippin but i swear i saw something on just buying the elise chassis and you have to put the motor in.
Actually with 1700lbs plus 150lbs for the driver, running 110mph trap speed, you would be making about 192.177hp to the wheels. According to this calculator:
http://www.rpmoutlet.com/dyno.htm

Using the same calc, you get 367hp to the wheels for the Cobra.
That sounds right to me.
