Front wheel bearing destruction...
Has anyone (who drives on a road course) had any issues with the front wheel bearings going bad?
I think I remember "cone head" (ITR 321?)? having issues a while back...
My driver side front wheel bearing was found to be "deader than a door nail" this Saturday evening at the track.
The driver’s side was fine.
I loosened the 32mm and gave the rotor a nice shake and discovered LOTS of play.

info:
-28,900 miles
-many (9-10) track events (no auto-cross)
-I have not curbed the car
-I have tightened the c.v. joint nut twice (it was loose (~40-50 ft.lbs) both times) on the driver’s side (it had not moved from the last time... the nut was crimped). Passenger side was tight when it was checked.
Could the bearing assembly get smaller (causing the nut to appear loose) over time?
Would excessive heat cause this?
Any idea on the cost for fresh bearings/seals?

Although my car has not yet seen a track event, I have 23,500 miles and also have a bad front/driver's side wheel bearing. Front bearing cost directly from the dealer is about $60. You mentioned that you've had to re-tighten the CV joint multiple times...is this common? I'm also experiencing a slight "clunking" sound from the same corner at low speeds over small bumps. It sounds as if something is loose...could it be the CV joint???
My clunking/clicking was at slow speed changing from one direction to the other (reverse/forward in a straight line). It is not the brake pads moving in the caliper b/c the noise still happened after the brake pedal was slightly depressed.
I have not noticed the noise going over bumps.

any "bad bearing" noise while loading the front wheel?
were your c.v. nuts tight?
when checked were they loose?

-who hoped the service department (who I hate) does not have issues with removed splash shields/cracked rotors

It's funny, I was just commenting to someone yesterday that I get a funny vibration (low speed) sometimes, and was wondering if it was the right CV/halfshaft. Guess it might be time for fresh bearings as well @ 106K miles.
A little bit of noise, but not much. Nuts were tight. Checked when tight (I think). You'll have to ask SGT about that last part. He was the one that caught this while working on my car.

Warren, how's that oil cooler coming along?
How about a baffled oil catch can/PVC set-up to go with that.
Steve might as well get some practice on yours before I ask him to do one for me (I'll probably put the battery in the back). Ed
Clicking/Clunking sound, very apparent on mine as well.. also during forward/reverse direction change and sometimes when going slowly in Low gears(1-2) and braking a little then applying gas slightly. I've had to re-torque the nut twice as well. No bearing noise yet though, but starting to worry.
What is the torque spec for the CV joint nuts, both front & rear? I'm going to be checking mine tonight! Gonna need to replace my driver's side wheel bearing, as well. Does it make sense to replace both front wheel bearings, instead of just one side?

You dont have to loosen the axle nut to check the wheel bearing since it wont
have any effect on it whatsoever.
I would just change the one that is bad. If the other is good then leave it.
FYI, I had to change my front bearings at around 55k miles and the only reason I
found out was because the alignment guys found it. Of course, mine werent nearly
as bad as Warren's

Wait a second...could this be why some times when I'm going low speed (and turning hard) I hear a LOUD crunching sound? It usually happens in the morning, or when it's cold, and sounds like the wheel will fall off. Doent happen all the time though.
wheel bearings on order here... will prolly rebuild driveshafts also. 80k miles, significant vibration, directly related to speed, and quite an annoying noise.
i wouldn't worry about it. gimme a few days here... and i'll have pricing on wheel bearings from local bearing supply co. won't have a honda part number, but will be exact same manufacturer's part number. should be around $20 each i'm guessing. don't quote me.

while i'm replacing that...i'm gonna check the bearings and cv joint too then...
