Default Exedy clutch problem

OK I FINALLY got my car back from getting the Exedy Clutch, ATS final, and Toda FW installed. I will write a review in my next post but I have a problem with the clutch. Every time I go into first I hear a grinding, squaking noise. It kinda sounds like my a squaky suspension but its coming from my clutch when it engages. Is this normal??? Does it need time to settle in??? Or should I take it back into the shop???

BTW this only happens going into first and going VERY slow in second (when the car bogs alittle, not much due to the FInal but alittle)

you should have received some instructions on that problem with the clutch system. You need to shorten the length of the clutch rod just a touch, that will keep the clutch from going in too far and causing the release bearing to rattle. Take a 12mm wrench to the locknut on the clutch rod (under the dashboard, in front of clutch pedal). Once the locknut is loosened, just turn the rod so it shortens about 1/8th of an inch or so. Tighten the locknut and you should be good to go. You may have to adjust it again until it stops making the noise, but I found that it only needed a small adjustment on my car. hth.

My only other thought to add, does it do ite when the motor is off and you put your foot onto the clutch. i had a problem with a lack of grease on the throw-out bearing that was causing a squeek at one time.

I just got my car back from acura, and it is doing the exact same thing, sounds like squeeky suspension. So does driving like this hurt the car at all? Ryan

Yes, If the squeek noise is because of metal on metal.

WTF I adjusted the bolt and the noise went away for 400 miles and now its back. Should I make the same adjustment?? Could it be the SAME problem?? its the squeky noise when I engage the clutch and begin to roll or when I going really slow in first and second and the car jerks alitte. Every time it jerk I hear the noise, every time I engage the clutch into first I hear the same noise what could it be??

I have a new Exedy clutch, with everything else stock, that makes noise too. If I push the pedal to the floor with the car stationary, I hear something rubbing -- this sounds like the problem that is fixed by adjusting the rod. I haven't had it adjusted yet, and have been working around it by not pushing the pedal all the way.

I've also noticed some squeaks, though, at low speeds. I haven't been able to figure out when it happens, but I don't think it's the same thing as the rubbing noise.

the nut you adjusted (I think) is the one for cluthc free play not the one that shortens the arm distance.

Did you use one 14mm or two 14mm wrenches?

I didn't adjust the 14mm bolt I adjusted the 12mm one infront of the clutch pedal to shorten the distance of the throw. Now the grinding nose is gone when the clutch is totally depressed but the other noise is still there. (I know adjusted the right on because my clutch pedal is now has about 1/2 the distance it used to).

Any other suggests will??

the 14mm jam nut and adjustment rod was what I adjusted. The rubber dampner on the rod is where the adjustment for the noise, when the pedal is pressed.

the 14mm jam nut is for the free plan on the pedal.

Not sure what your other noise is... did you get a fresh release bearing?

Yea, I found out about this **** the hard way.
My Exedy clutch did not come with the bulletin you guys mention.

I dropped it in along w/ the fresh B16 I put in my car this weekend.
Took one ride up the street to a 7-11.. then when I went to back out it wouldn't go into gear. Only way it would go into gear was if the car was not running.

So I had to go back to my friend's house and drop the tranny.

Now I am rocking a ITR clutch. Too bad I was unaware of this bulletin.
Oh well.. now I know what to do when the ITR clutch finally bites the dust.

I had a heck of a time "just" adjusting the rod. I couldn't get 2 12mm wrenches on the nut to get it loose. You have to have needle dick wrenches to get 2 wrenches in there. I ended up taking out the slave cylinder to adjust it. What a bitch. Oh well, everything works good for now. The clutch locked up on me just once since then. Can't wait to do 8k drops on slicks this weekend.
