please make a write up! i tried removing it, but i dunno how. i took off only 1 nut and i cant seem to find the others. my previous car did not have ABS so i'd assume i wouldnt need it on my lude neither! but a write-up is a good idea!

Looking good.

Maybe in the future, i'll take out my AC and all, but I like my power steering - and I DEFINATELY love my ABS.

Your bay looks good though.

maxvtec7500 made that thread, search his name

you need to move the battery, then you can tuck all the wires up by the fusebox...your bay looks a lot like mine, im just slightly more stripped....

How much weight does this save? I personally prefer to keep abs.

the pictures on that old ABS write up dont work. Just thought i would point that out.

I dont understand why people wanna take it out. Not having ABS damn near got me killed because with out it, your wheels are going to lock up very easily under heavy stomping of the brake. And if it is just for weight issues, then spend that time that it would tke to remove it at a job and make the money to put it in the motor and make REAL horsepower and torque. Yeah sure, every 100 pounds is a .1 off of a drag time, but woopty f-ing do. You can only shed like 300 pounds off of a preludes fat *** and that just turns it in to a coke can on wheels. You can still have clean engine bays, you just have to put elbow grease and creative thinking into it.

The ABS system on 4th gen preludes are simply horrible. They are 2 channel, so when one tire locks up, the system triggers every wheel to go into ABS.

I hard wired new lines that you can buy from autozone/adavance auto into the racecar. Most of you guys just might want to buy "S" model hardware and plumb the lines in.. That ABS system on the prelude is HUGE and you will lose about 40lbs out of the car.

another reason to remove abs is if you're running aftermarket axles that don't allow for abs (no ring for the sensor to read) then whats the point of keeping the rest of the system when its doing nothing.

non-girls and non-cavemen drivers know to not STOMP on the brakes when you need to slow down. idiot

dropping weight from the engine bay of a prelude is a tough thing to do, not having abs doesnt make your car into a coke can on wheels, plus that thing sucks, as corey explained.....you can do this for about $100-$200....you show me $200 worth of engine mods that will get you the same benefits....also keep in mind that everyone doesnt drive in straight lines kid

you can shave a lot more than 300 lbs too dude...before youre gonna criticize something do some research....look at hawkze...god knows how much he lost....

instead of pulling things out to make it look cleaner, why not actually clean it? youd prolly lose 5 lbs of dirt in that bitch

I don't. But then, I do most of my driving in non-ABS cars, so on the occasion that I do hop into an ABS car, I'm not used to it.

Also, I might rewrite that statement a bit anyway. I'd say that since every prep level below SM requires you to keep it if you have it, most people are stuck with it.

what about removing the abs in a 5th gen. Is it the same or not seeing as how they never made a 5th gen with out abs.

ok just read this months GrassRootsMotorsports

they did a comprehensive test about cars w/abs, traction control, etc

it was conducted on a track with an experienced driver who did 1000+ laps on the track and with another driver who was just experienced and had about 30 laps at the track. they did a wet/dry laps with different levels of electronic engagement.

i won't retype the whole article, if you are interested i suggest you subscribe or buy this months GRM but basically:

ABS nowadays (tested on brand new bmw) actually helps the car go around the track faster, the other electronic aids added to lap times. w/o the abs the car had front biased braking and you would have to brake earlier.

it is widely known that electronic aids are worse off than RACE CAR DRIVERS, but to the average HPDE or recreational driver, they can help be close to an very experienced driver. that being said this kinda doesnt' apply to 15 year old abs technology on a honda prelude. but abs is the norm nowadays and it is about to eclipse non-abs systems. you can even make the same argument with automatic transmissions. its getting to a point where some cars are actually faster with autos than they are with manuals. the only thing comes down to driver preference.

You're a moron.

Test after test shows that ABS v. non-ABS people go quicker around a track with ABS than w/out.

Most logarithms on street car ABS systems are too much like on/off switches but you can do a lot to modulate the ABS system's attitude with tires, brake pad compounds and driver inputs.

My 5th gen has ABS and I've learned to use it to my advantage on the track; getting into the corner 50' deeper than the guy who just locked up and flatspotted his fronts is worth the weight penalty and, at times, bothersome niggles of ABS.

Sorry to bring back an old thread - but ****, just recently I had to slam on my brakes........no ABS('cause of relay) and now I have a FLAT spot in my tire. When i say flat - i mean FLAT! Now, don't know if you guys like buying tires or not - but I sure in the hell don't. Just bought a set.......

I'm keeping my ABS, and i'll take out AC.
