Default My swap progress. B18A1 in 89 Civic DX.

Making a post to show progress on my swap. Hopefully it might come in handy for someone else later down the road.

I've had this car for 4 years now, to this date just about. The D15B2 started to crap and I'm just try to give it a few more years of life until I'm out of school. I'll be doing the majority of the work on the weekends because of work and school during the week.

I've already converted to MPFI almost 2 years ago. So basically I should be able to just unplug and replug the new motor in.

I'm going to use the integra's knuckles for this swap.

Here are some pics of day 1, got a late start tonight, just want to show some before pics.

God's gift.

expletive thieves.

little tip: degreaser is your friend before you jump into this swap, unless that is black paint but it looks like grease to me

DAY 1

Quick recap:
Got kerosyn for heater.
Jacked car up on stands.
Drained all fluids. Oil, Trans, Radi.
Took radiator out.
Removed Battery.
Removed Intake.
Took front wheels off.

DAY 2

The shift linkage, and mounts arrived today. w00t!
Thanks http://www.JDMCars.com ht: jdmcars.com

News:
I will not be able to swap in the integra's brakes yet. I need a way to push both cars in and out of the garage during the swap. Some time after the swap is done, I will be putting them in.

Progress:
Removed bat tray out.
Unplugged all wires, and labeled them. I might forget.
Disconnected speedo cable
Removed Intake Mani.
Removed headers, from cat and up.
Disconnected shift linkage.
Gave up on loosening the axel nut, will have to wait another day.

Pics:

Here is the B18A1. Yea.. I still need to take it out.

Had to wait to get a hold of a cherry picker, got one late last week and just got busy with other things.

So far its been smooth sailing. Next step now is to remove the B18 from the integra.

DAY 3

Took the axles out, and the D15B2.

A shopping cart makes for a perfect engine stand, let me tell ya.

I hope so.

DAY 4

Prepped the civic engine bay for the new motor by following Hasport's directions.

Pulled the integra into the garage and started disasembling it.

The only thing different I've had to do so far was taking the power steering out. Plus I've noticed a few things that are different so I'll probably have to look more into it.

The B18 is ready to be pulled now but it will have to wait till tomorrow. Once its out we will be checking the belts and what not to see what needs replaced.

Hoping tomorrow will be the day its done.

kool i got that same motor in my 88 four door its quick i would suggest taking off the intake mani and porting and polishing it. you will get alot better response to the motor. dont forget to dint the subframe where the alternator is goin to be and knock it good too.

Default Swaps

Sweet. I'm also swapping out a d16, but for another d16. Glad to see I'm not the only one taking pics of every step.

and also on the subframe where the rear mount hooks up to the t-bracket on the tranny... just notch that in, btw: sledge hammers work great for this stuff

man this would be a GREAT opportunity to fix all the little things.

1. refresh the b18, gaskets, belts, clamps and hoses.

2. RACK END BUSHING (search and you'll see).

3. re-wrap wiring harness.

good luck man, nice work.
