Saturday at the dealerships (CL-S, IS300 reviews inside)
Well,
Nice afternoon so my sister and I went to drive some cars as she's in the market for a new car. here goes:
2003 Acura CL Type S (6 speed)
This is a nice ride, very plush, church quiet. Its fast, but i expected more performance based on the numbers. Definately not as quick as my ITR (I/H/E). THe clutch was soft as ****, and the shifter was short but terribly vague and rubbery. The suspension was much softer than i expected, and not very sporty. Way too much brake dive and squat with the loud pedal. VTEC was actually pretty noticable, and the top end was pretty decent. The steering was basically luxury car soft, with not much feedback. However, I have no PS in my car so i'm biased. THe salesman said that any aftermarket parts that Acura installs will be covered by the warranty. Jackson Racing anyone?
2002 Lexus IS300 (5 speed)
Had high hopes for this car, it looks great, the interior is nice, the guage cluster is annoying. Driving, the suspension, RWD, steering were all great, nice road feel, not much lean or dive. However. the motor is absolute dog, it doesnt rev, doesnt do much at all really. I was really disappointed with the engine. slap a Supra TT motor and tranny, and this car would rock.
Cliff Notes:
NEW CL-S with the manual gearbox would make a kick *** daily driver and date car, as long as you have an ITR for real performance driving
IS300: handles great, looks great, but i want dials on my watch, not my speedo, and the **** is much slower than it looks
