New header test fit on Rodrez's beast no 56k !!!!!!!!!
Our friend Rodrez has the an-r header on his eg for a while now, recently the header start to crack, we tried to weld it back twice already and still doesn't seem to hold up. Anyone has this issue before? I happy to have a set of Spark racing header around the shop, I purchased it from Spark racing few months back and intended to use on my DC2, but my plan has changed
on the car so we decided to put it on Rodrez's car instead. Here is what we found.

The Spark racing header look like a very good quality unite, the weld is very good and the header itself is very lightweight
However you have to monkey around to made it fit. The holes don't seem to like up perfectly, we had to drill 3 holes bigger to made it line up. Took about half hour to do with the right tools.

The header has good clearance around the oil pan, it hang just a little lower then the dc jdm 4 to 1 not too bad. Rodrez's plan on doing a dyno comparison between his new spark racing header vs the An-r next couple of weeks. stay tune

yes i would have to say its a very nice header
.. just needs a little more R & D time to make sure everything fits perfect....

Can you post pics of the inside of those welds at the flange?
Please tell me that guy doesn't use an air grinder without safety glasses.

O_o ???
.....and I thought the dc jdm 4-1 was a low hanging ****!

AN-R

ok looks like you got the older sparks, the one I had used the same flange. the newer ones have a more square flange that says "spark racing" on it, and it seems like they fit even worse
looks nice in there though. should make better power than that AN-R did.

we're not in the market of welding headers for a living, this is the best we can do
we have a stick welder made by miller!
Miller is good, I have one too. I would never post pics of my welds though after looking at SMSP, RMF, or Hy-TECH
yeah my Sparks cracked at the flange-tube junction. I wasn't too pissed since I got it for free. We welded the outside and then ported the inside welds. I will try to grab some pics, it's on my girlfriend's car now....
I'm not posting the pictures of the welds to show off our welding skills, i'm trying to show the pictures where the an-r header cracked after we repaired it twice. There is no comparision between our welds and there, that's why they're in the market of making expensive headers
tell matt he should polish it, my girlfriend polished hers before we put it in and it looks HARD! gotta give credit where it's due - she was inspired by the polished RMF header (belongs to Rocket) at our header test....
but yeah he should polish it. then it turns gold again but it's SHINY gold

To fix that so it won't crack the next time you start it up.Cut the cracked tube back as far back as you can and still weld all the way around it.Then sand the flange off flat again on the outside. And then die grind the weld off on the inside and cut the piece out of the flange. Then get another piece and fit it back in and weld it.
Its just that easy.LOL

Haha, it's a mild street build, far from a "beast" that's for sure.
The Sparks Racing header seems pretty solid, and well, it was in stock, so I decided to give it a shot, as I've read good things thus far. As I was installing it, I noticed that it wouldn't fit properly on the studs at the lower left and right hand corners completely. I used a hammer to lightly tap the studs, as one looked a little off center, and the header slid on with a little motivation, but not all of the holes would line up correctly, and it was impossible to bolt up. So that's why the grinder was pulled out, and a little massaging was done by 1Type. As far as the AN-R header, I loved the midrange with the manifold, and later with the small ITB set up, but it just couldn't hold together unfortunately.
I'm very curious to see the difference in power between the 2 headers, and I'll be visiting C.A.T. for a fine tune in the next few weeks. I prefer to use the same dyno I used before for reference, plus I love Church's professionalism and great service

I used to use a JDM DC 4-1, and this new header has more ground clearance, not that my car is super low, but it's good to know I don't have to think about it hitting
