DIY Paint Headlight Question
Since im in SLC do I still put the oven to 350 or should i do it at 325? Im kind of nervous doing the oven part and prying off the plastic and putting it back on. So any extra pointers that could help me would be great. im already using the DIY thread from honda-acura. thanks

At any temp, make sure that the metal heating thing in the over is NOT glowing red when you put the headlight in because it's the DIRECT RADIATING head that will melt the plastic.
THAT IS WHY YOU SHOULD PRE-HEAT!!!
so that the red thing does'nt glow.
at any temp (not being over 350) if you are still worried about melting anything , then just put a cloth over your headlight, and don't let it leave your sight.

there are little slots where the housing and headlight are connected. pop those out first. go slowly and you should be fine.

I just did this on my 96 over the weekend. Pre-heat the oven to 300* and then put one headlight on a baking sheet and put it in the oven. Leave it in for about 10 minutes (don't worry, it won't melt). Pull it out and use a flathead screwdriver to pry the lens away from the assembly (and don't break any of those clips! they get soft while in the oven so be careful with them). That's it. Then do whatever painting and cleaning up you wanna do to the headlight and when you're done put them back together, run a new bead of clear silicone around the entire lens (leave the old silicone on there too), and set it back in the oven (pre-heated of course). make sure the lens is facing up because i didnt on one of mine and it fell in the oven and scared the sh*t outta me. LOL! After 10 minutes, pull the entire thing out and press the lens back on and snap the clips. I kept pressing down on mine for a minute or two to make sure there was a good seal, and then ran another bead of silicone around the lens for extra protection. Good luck!
BTW, your house will stink like silicone for a couple hours after you do this, so your wife/girlfriend/mom/whatever might be pissed at you about that!

You dont need to cover it with anything. Just throw it in the oven and let it "cook" for 10 minutes at 200. Take em out and pull apart. The little clips for the backing of the headlight can be a bitch so have a screwdriver around to pry them up a little just in case.
As far as the amber reflectors you can keep em in or buy amber bulbs. I took mine out and bought new bulbs. They dont sell amber bulbs in that size at andy of the auto stores around here so I just matched the bases of the bubls and picked a new set. Whether or not you leave the amber in there or not there really shouldnt be any cosmetic difference. IDK if you can see my avatar clearly enough but this is what it looks like with amber bulbs in it. Hope that helps some.
