Default Anti theft thingamajig

Looks like a good, safe,non-computerized, inexpensive way to stop your car from being stolen.

Anyone ever heard of these ?

I read a little of that page, and it says that all of the connections are made under the hood, so if that's the case, then it might not be a bad idea...

Just remember... ANY anti-theft device is only as good as its installation....

Yeah but you could trace the wire to the source. The wires are protected by steel sheathing in to the engine compartment. It would be very obvious where the wire enter the engine compartment. The wires inside are all black so you trace the wire to where they connect to the factory wire. It would take a while but I could do it Im sure you could too.

A hidden armored steel cable protects the wires from the rear of the Ravelco base on through to the engine compartment of the vehicle. All electrical connections are made in the engine compartment and are connected in and through the factory wiring harnesses. Since there are no exposed wires, a properly installed Ravelco is virtually impossible to detect and very time consuming to trace, because all the wires are the same color (black)

also..

A testament to the effectiveness of the Ravelco Antitheft Device came on September 25, 2001 in Mexico City when the Ravelco was put to the test by CESVI-MEXICO, a company owned by the seven major insurance companies in Mexico. They had professional thieves try to hot-wire the most stolen vehicle in Mexico City, a 2002 Nissan Sentra that had a Ravelco installed on it. The CESVI Company said they would approve Ravelco if it took more than 8 minutes to bypass, i.e., the "8-minute test". After cutting wires and trying for 35 minutes the thieves finally gave up. The next day they had the vehicle towed to a Nissan dealer to get it rewired and able to start. While the Ravelco could not be defeated even after 35 minutes, every other alarm, tracking system, and antitheft device tested was bypassed in under 3 minutes

A hidden armor steel cable huh? That will be real easy to hide coming right off the back of the unit. Wont stick out all.

All Im saying is what goes up must come down. If it can be installed it can be uninstalled. As B18C_EJ8 said it will only work as good as 1the install.

I just dont see YOU disabling this in any realistic amount of time, you just posted to come off like you are some kind of hotshot that can get around anything. you were quick to boast you could get around it as soon as I posted this without even looking at the site. nobody has been around it in the 29 years its been in use even when they were payed to do it and had unlimited time to try. anyway we dont need to argue about this, fact is you cant get around this you just dont like your ego being **** on.

Cuz you know my abilities as an installer and my level of expertise.

I guaranty I can get around this security device as I previously said it would take a little time.

I love the way you quote the website like every thing they say is proven fact. Dude there trying to sell a product of course they are going to hype it up. Been around for 29 years yet no one here has ever heard of it? hmm wonder why?
Im sorry you feel you have to attac me and talk **** because I dont like you proposed product.

glancing at the website. the place they mount it is somewhat near the ign. im pretty sure i can bypass that unit. i mess with honda/acuras eletrical stuff all the time(other cars i duno.)., if your fairly unexpericened in car wiring then im sure it would "seem" impossible to do.

B18C_EJ8- in that case isnt it pointless to have any kind of security system, included layered? I mean if they can tow the car why even add security?

Well, I just read everything on that site, and I'm still not convinced. I sent them an email asking for the installation instructions. I want to see just what this thing gets tapped into. I just don't believe the "armored cable" thing, either.

We shall see what their response is.

everything added including layered does not mean your car is theift proof.

why you ask even add security ? well there are cases when the theif doesnt have a tow truck but does have a screw driver or other tools trying to steal ur corners or something... why even drive. save yourself alot of cash that way.

unless that "armored cable" is some how wired that if the cable is cut the ignition and fuel pump are also cut, it's nothing that some small bolt cutters can't solve in a second. Why not just pull the coil wire when you leave too?

Got an email back from them; they said they won't sell the unit uninstalled. Emailed them back with my make & model; I'll post up the pricing information when I get it.

Well, here it is:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Dear b18c_ej8,

Thank you for your interest in the Ravelco Antitheft Device. The Ravelco will work great on your 2002 Honda Accord. It's a neat, clean installation and will effectively prevent your car from being stolen.

The cost for the Ravelco installed on your vehicle is $499.95. There is no need for you to drive to us, wait for the installation, or drop off your vehicle. Our mobile specialists will come on-site right to your home or office to perform the install. The installation takes approximately 3 hours.

We realize that any auto security product is only as good as the installation. We are proud to employ some of the best installation professionals in the industry. Our installers treat every job as if our 29-year track record of success were on the line... because it is. We are so confident in the quality and reliability of the Ravelco that we back every installation with a lifetime guarantee.

Once your vehicle is equipped with the Ravelco Antitheft Device, you will likely become eligible for a significant insurance discount. Many customers find that over time, the Ravelco more than pays for itself.

Would you like to schedule an installation appointment? Just let us know when you're generally available for the install, and we'll make the arrangements. We can do weekday, weekend, and evening appointments.

Thank you,
David Wilmouth
