Everybody and their grandma is going turbo. I just want something different. I'm not looking to make 500whp. Just looking for a step up that's all. I've been reading up on all of them and the jrsc is the easiest to install, the vortech makes the most power, and the procharger isn't a roots. Not that I have anything against roots, just want something different...

 

Dont do the centrifgal supercharger, it only makes power up top, I mean way up top Its basically a crappy turbo thats belt driven, so if you like that type of power go for it. I personally run a JRSC and have had very respectable hp and tq numbers, upwards of 300 whp......turbos are hard to resist though

 

Do it right the first time and get turbo. Boost is addictive, and the supercharger will get you hooked on it. After that, you'll be wanting to go turbo for some more boost/power.

 

I am here to say, after doing both...and i hate to say it...

here's one of the main things I'm concerned about: I live in the desert... and in the summer it's 115+ and I don't feel like turning my car into a frying pan. So I need a/c. No a/c with turbo , but you can keep it with a supercharger.

Thus, the quest for the supercharger continues.

you can keep a/c with turbo...depends on what manifold and turbo youre using

 

just roll the windows down jk sorta. i heard that superchargers pull a lot harder than turbo, like they wind up a lot quicker or something, dont know much about them, just hear people talking (who have ridden in turbo and sc cars)

 

you can keep ac and ps with turbo. sc gives better responce, turbo gives better hp and tq. do whatever your little heart desires. if you wanna be different, be different

 

everybody always told me I was different... I didn't think you could keep a/c with turbo. Doesn't the Intercooler take up the space? I'm not very FI savvy. Learn something new everyday. We'll see what happens...people still owe me money ...and it'll probably take them a while to pay me back *sigh* so I have time to think about it. Thanks to everyone who posted.

ps-I have a few turbo'd friends...one in particular, his turbo car has never been running right...something always breaks. Aren't there reliabillity issues with turbos?

agree, if youre lookin for a jrsh, i have a buddy of mine selling a complete bolt-on.

tuning is crucial to reliability, as well as building everything right the first time. if you have little to no experience with FI i highly doubt anyone would recommend you trying to build everything yourself anyways.

 

The only problem with being "different" by getting a sc, is that you can have 50 more horsepower for the same money.

 

ive had turbo and i still have sc and i love the sc because it makes power so fast, im not looking to be the fastst but its fun to drive out on the twisties and and im gonna use it for open track and auto x

 

I agree the SC is a better power adder in an autox environment since you're not bottling up exhaust heat under the hood to make power. And yes the SC will heat-soak and things will get toasty, but its managable with a conservative tune.

The only downside is the SC probably bumps you into a much more wide-open class where you're likely to never be competitive.

what kind of setup do you have to make 300 whp?

Quit saying SC in general!

A vortech or procharger will not give you any kind of the instant throttle response of what JRSC does. JRSC = full boost instantly at any RPM's. Vortech = full boost ONLY at redline. That isn't instant throttle response at low RPM's, and it's people saying things like this that make people believe that all blowers including centrifugals make instant boost and power. If they did, you'd see a lot more people running them.
