OK I finally got my accord yesterday and 2nd gear is gone. The guy was going to up the price over 3K from what I paid for it. He was going to have aamco rebuild it for 1.5K and then charge me twice that so I would have paid 9K for the car. I got the car for 6K and it looks like it will cost me 2.5K to rebuild the trans. I tried going to the local honda dealer but they are like "Talk to HOA and here is their ph#" I called HOA and they wanted the full service records for the car and I told them that I just got it and they said they will look into it. They want me to take it to Brookdale Honda in Brooklyn park. The problem is that HOA is willing to help but they do not have the complete service records. I told them that I requlary service my other honda at Brooklyn Park for all major repairs and oil changes if I am near them.
I called Kennedy Trans and most of the places want from 2.1K to about 3.8K to rebuild it. I am taking my car there this morning and letting them have it. Asked the local honda dealer wants 5K for a REMAN trans...........God knows how much a new one would be. and my guess is that they would take it to the Kennedy Trans shop that is 3 blocks away to put in the REMAN trans.
In the end I talked the guy down from 8K plus tax and all the other crap to 6K out the door.
Today I will call HOA and let them know that the trans gave out completely and I took it to kennedy trans for repairs because I cannot afford the 4K from the dealer.

is this on the 98 LX V6?
I thought Honda extended the warranty on those trannies? Or does that not apply if your not the original owner?

Quoting Honda:
"certain 2000 and 2001 Accords and Odesseys"
American Honda Motor Co., Inc. announced it will provide extended warranties on approximately 1.2 million Honda and Acura models equipped with automatic transmissions due to problems that may result in premature wear or failure. The extended warranty will cover affected transmissions for seven years or 100,000 miles.
The standard bumper-to-bumper warranty for Honda vehicles is three years or 36,000 miles, while Acura vehicles are covered for four years or 50,000 miles.
Vehicles covered by the extended warranty include:
2000 - 2001 Honda Accord, Odyssey and Prelude
2000 - 2002 and some 2003 Acura 3.2 TL
2001 - 2002 and some 2003 Acura 3.2 CL
While only two percent of these vehicles have experienced these transmission problems, American Honda will provide extended transmission warranties on all potentially affected vehicles.
"Our priorities are making sure our customers are taken care of and reassured they can continue to depend on their Honda or Acura automobile for a long time to come," said Tom Elliott, executive vice president for American Honda.
There is usually plenty of warning to the driver that the transmission is not operating properly, such as slow or erratic shifting, giving them ample time to take the vehicle in for service.
American Honda will notify all owners of eligible vehicles via mail in the coming weeks.
Straight from the horses mouth.

With all of these tranny problems, that is not a good idea....I'll just bite the bullet and rebuild the one in there.
Accordinf to V6 performance, it is nearly 6% based upon the data they collected. and based upon the reaction of Brookdale Honda, I would guess they are putting trannies in these cars all day long.

hmmm... that sucks.
I wouldn't buy a used tranny either if there is that many potential problems. Whos to say the used one you buy won't break in 3000 miles.

Should have gotten a h22 swap, comes with everything including a tranny and it only costs 1990. Not sure how much they'de charge for a swap but it'd probably be alittle more then the 3.8k but it would make a world of differences in your accord.

h22a is not better than v6 overall and the the reason I got a V6 is because it is smooth powerful and QUIET
to rebuild my 94 auto it cost about 1800. it was done by my macanic's tranny guy. he dosnt do tranny work. so i assume 2100 for a newer car would be a good price

they will consider the 1998 V6 cars on a case by case basis so that is why I called them. based upon what I have learned, they may cover the trans and I pay for labor but after reading some more I decided to go with kennedy trans and their lifetime warranty option.
if its for your 98 have them check out your VIN number, they will be able to tell if theres an extended warranty on the tranny.
I just had the same prob on my gfs 98 and they didnt put an extension on hers, so Im having it rebuilt now for around a grand.

the closest one to me was lextington ave n in arden hills about 9 miles from my house. and the one you are referring to was on Rice St wan't it?. A lot of business has moved out of st paul cause the place is a dump now.....compared to a few years ago when Norm Colman was mayor.
there could have been one there too. i'm not sure but no there was one in west st paul also

Got the update. Main bearing went out on unit. caused metal to go through all the solenoids and bust up the clutch packs. This is something that should not have happened to this unit based upon the condition of the car according to the trans guy. He said my car is in EXCELLENT CONDITION for a 1998 car and besides the tranny failure, nothing is wrong with it. not even a drip from anything.
